Having had a look at I think you're being overambitious for your first project. Try something smaller like this , I am sure it will fit into a standard-size frame.

His subject line was "Weaving Mecca Out Here". If he wants to weave Mecca then I wish him good luck.

I read the title as simply that there is an abundance of beauty and opportunity for weaving in New Mexico. I don't know about other places, but in the US one may use the term "mecca" colloquially as simply a wonderful place full of good things and good chances, similar to people who would refer to a wonderful garden or other outdoor natural as a "garden of eden". When I was in law school in Chicago, lots of law students referred to the Cook County Law Library as a mecca -- a fabulous collection of books and in a beautiful and comfortable setting very high in a building and with windows all around so one can see Lake Michigan.

Sigh - Bruce understands that perfectly well. Once again, people are not seeing that Bruce is playing with the person's subject line since it can easily be read two ways. Both Mirjam and Mary need to understand that Bruce was making a joke.
For Mirjam and Mary, Bruce was saying it could be read as
(I am) weaving Mecca (the city) out here! as well as (It is a) Weaving Mecca (in the colloquial sense) out here.

Bruce I understood it as a metahphor ! Mecca being THE HOLY CITY of the muslims , is methaphor to Heaven on Earth , A dream place or situation one hopes to be in , or visit at least once in a lifetime. Thus any place can be a Mecca for something and in this case , he described a place where his dreams to practice weaving would be fullfilled. People should be encouraged to try any Craft or technique they wish to try. Have YOU ever tried weaving ? it is a wonderful fantastic way of creating with threads. mirjam

Marg , i understood Bruce`s meaning very well. BUT being myself a weaver , having woven much of my Fiberart , i thought that telling the person who posted it, THAT it was way over his abilty , was uncalled for !!!! And MARG , it is YOU who missread Me ,,, i NEVER thought for minute that the writer was weaving any real Mecca......Which is after all Not so far away from here,, mirjam

This is one time where the correct use of capital letters is important (mecca or Mecca). I responded to the original poster because the website had nothing to do with needlework and because using capital letters for every word in the subject line is a pet hate of mine (as is the practice of using random capitalisation).

I occasionally post needlework queries from Maureen (which are always answered by the group) and I pass on to her any relevant tips or hints that I see on the group.

I like having someone who has a y chromosome and traditionally wears pants, although he might don a skirt (aka kilt) for a special occassion, participating. The needlework tips seem to be few and far between as there's a heavy signal to noise ratio but when they show up, they're keepers.

And this gave you the ability to judge if a project of weaving was in the man`s abilities ? Just wondering , after over 25 years of weaving , after having taught quite some pupils, i still wouldn`t tell a person without ACTUALLY seeing him Weave , if he can or can`t do it . mirjam
