Whatcha stitching folks

Something will turn up! Have you check to see if the local schools need summer teachers?

Some day, I might get there... Along with a 100 other places.

Hey - you can come and do the sealing on our fence and just the deck stringers (the main part is all trex, but we had the boards that hold the wrought iron balusters and the trellis left in the wood - now they have to be sealed by hand). When you're done of course. Let you sit in one of the swivel rockers... Or the swing.

Sounds like a good plan. No stitching for me - we had a "jewelry show" for the goddaughter trying to find what to wear with her new prom dress (parents away, I got the fun of taking her shopping, etc.). Her older sister, almost

23, had a few friends come over, and I brought some stuff, and we picked. As these things go it was great fun for the goddaughter, though an extra and aggravating schlep for me as indeed the stuff I'd found was perfect. Then, we went to dinner, took the 12 year old who was pouting because she had goofed off all afternoon, early evening, and has a final today and we made her study for an hour while doing the jewelry show. Best, put it on "Dad's" credit card. Today, after stitching with Donna, then get to take said goddaughter for mani-pedi (and a pedicure for me) at 5. Her present from DH & I. Then tomorrow, hair. Saturday a.m. We did the make-up thing. Only thing I have to drop her dress at Nordie's and get lingerie straps put in, as I forgot to have that done when we got it (and much, much less expensive for the dress than you'd believe). And pick up her shoes, which are on hold. Sorry for the OT drift. OTOH, if I make the lingerie straps that would be some stitching.... If I can find black snaps. And the necklace and earring set that I couldn't find while searching through all my stuff for what I was in the lend mode.

LOL - I'm not certified to teach, graduate degrees notwithstanding. I'd have to do a certification course thing - which I'm not going to do. But, I am doing the thing for a sub position in the fall. Bascially, I'm way overqualified for a lot of jobs, and all the "real" engineer jobs - of which there are many that would be straightforward to get require an active clearance. Since I'm already in that waiting game, well, it's almost a catch-22 but not quite.

I'm going to streamline my resume down to see if it won't be so "intimidating" -which is what my friend the former HR/Recruiter at Booz said. And I'm going to push harder at the hospital for a patient care tech job. It's all just a pain in the you know what.

Know that feeling. I think the travel is what I miss from that particular marriage...Honestly, I loved all but my first trip to India - the first one

- well, that was a bit more "interesting" . But, the ensuing ones were awesome - and I have some amazing pix from the day we spent at the Temple of the Sun God - famous for its erotic carvings. Climbed all over whatever we could, and took lots of pix.

My DH is applying for a new position as a Workplace Violence and Emergency Preparedness Coordinator. He redid his resume in an interesting way - he put a characteristic ("Trust", "Integrity") off to the left, then on the right put various things he had done that reflected it. More interesting and less intimidating than a regular resume and lets him pick and choose what to highlight, shows various aspets of jobs, etc. Maybe this is an approach for you.

That's an idea. I did apply for something a bit different, so we'll see how that works. At least it got a recruiter contacting me, and actually asking what was making me decide to go back into the serious workplace (paraphrasing). We'll see.

Thanks for the suggestion.

LOL - the dinner.

LOL - using my half-brain, I dropped the dress at Nordies - they had it ready by 7, and of course they had also steamed it. Her folks were back from the nearly 2 weeks in Europe, with lovely Belgian and Dutch and French chocolate. Dad paid for dinner in person tonight. Best part - a true customer service thing. When we went to pick up the shoes that were on hold at the Nordies out here by Dulles, the shoes were MIA. So, while the woman in temporary charge of the dept was looking, as I got annoyed - but stayed polite and didn't yell - she found them at a store about 40 mi away. To which I told her she should get that definitely confirmed, and when we came back down from picking up the dress, we would like to see the Manager. So, upon returning in 5 min, the store manager (I think one of the assistants who was Mgr of the Day) was on the phone working on it. We browsed, found a couple of other shoes that would work (heel height, color critical) but they were indeed nearly 2X the price. The nice manager woman went and found several pairs of shoes - some from the sale, and then some not on sale. The goddaughter tried them on - this took a couple of searching for other style trips. Some didn't look right, or wrong size. Then we found one lovely pair of sandals that were $100, as opposed to the $39 Nordie's label shoes. And a pair of Nordie's label. The manager looked at the $39 black shoes and said - they're too blah. I looked at ther and said, well, these others are a different budget issue - and she just smiled and said "we'll take care of it - this is important, and we lost her shoes and there's no time to get another pair shipped in". Giving us the gorgeous (nicer than what we started with ) shoes for $39. All are happy. And I will write a letter to the GM of the store for the nice way in which this manager handled things. The first woman - actually started to tell me that it was my fault for not having the name of the guy I had spoken to yesterday morning confirming the shoes, and that they would be there today for pick-up. Clearly not a manager when she's starting to do the excuse thing. O, FWIW, the shoes are:

Bombay Sapphire, or the Tangerey

I know there's one in Providence - small hike. Imagine in the Mass 'burbs as well.

Asian (India and some Middle Eastern) depilatory technique. Awesome precision, less expensive than waxing, and I think not very painful. Here's an article. Normally I go to some Indian woman's house, but we're going to try the salon in Herndon today as my gal hasn't called back. Also, a lot of Indian boutiques will have someone there that does it.

They're building one in Natick (Rte. 9), don't know when it's supposed to be done.

There is something other than Tanerey?

`Absolutely. Bombay Sapphire came out about 10 years ago - it's in a nice blue bottle and is kind of high end gin. Very nice. Also, Tanguerey came out with their own "high end" gin. All tasty. I like the Bombay better if I'm doing classic martinis. We have both - and tonic. And limes.

Then there's always Mike's.....

Well, maybe when the seemingly life time supply of Tangerey is gone (MIL was a martini drinker) I'll give it a try.

Did you know that gin can have a depressive effect on some people, or exhilarating in other cases ? I will have the very occasional martini or G&T but two would have me in tears.

I have been surprised at how many people I have met who find the same thing.

I truly have to be in the mood for G&T's and it must be warm out. I rarely have more than one anyway.

I have a whole afternoon that is not committed so am about to settle back and try and finish a crewel pillow I am doing. I went and rented two movies to accompany me, Pan's Labryinth (not generally my sort of thing but two people have assured me I will like this) and Notes on a Scandal with Judi Dench which I hear is very different and great. This is all out of character, last time I rented a movie was four years ago so the cashier told me when I gave him the card lol

So here's hoping.

Sounds like a grand afternoon. Let us know how the stitching rhythm goes with the movies. I'm kind of curious about Pan's Labyrinth.

Good luck with stitching while viewing Pan's Labrynith. We saw this in the theater with subtitles. It's riveting.

Yep, it was hard to keep going but I am lucky to have a reasonable knowledge of Spanish so only had to check the subtitles here and there. Bit more gore in it than I really like, but it's good and I was entertained, a compliment from a non-movie watcher.

Judi Dench, great as always. Kudos to her being filmed lounging in her bath smoking, in quite the worst pose for any woman past fifty, with one arm raised. Somehow the underarm flesh is very revealing, but she did it lol Good story line, different and somewhat creepy, but then she never does anything mediocre.

No, I didn't finish the crewel, was overly ambitious/optimistic. I finished half of what was left, so two more good sessions should do, the end is in sight.
