How thick is too thick?

I would like to make some chalices and wanted to know how thick the stem can be if it's not hollowed out (I fire to ^6).

Any thickness of clay can be fired if it's thoroughly dry. That can take a long time. More to the point on not hollowing chalice handles--if it's hollow it will much less likely pop loose in the bisque from trapped steam at the joint. So if it's solid you will have to dry it very thoroughly to avoid this problem. Brad Sondahl
