12" block diagonal?

someone whos brain is working better than mine just now.... sure i could use the calculator on the puter but even that eludes me just now. havent had dinner yet, thats my 'scuse and i'm sticking to it. so anyhow.... how long is the diagonal on a 12" block? tia, j.

but for those who want to file away how to do the math.....

you would square the two sides (12 x 12) + (12 x 12) which would equal 144 +

144 or 288.

Then you need the square root of 288 which is 16.9705

It's not that complicated. Simply multiply the length of the side (12" in this case) by the square root of 2 (1.414). Result is 16.97. Let me know if you need the algebraic proof. :)

That's what the square root key on a calculator is for, isn't it? :) (Though I still have my slide rule and could do it on that, too -- if I can remember where it is!)
