2006-2007 RCTQ BOM

Ok, so it's a little after the first, but hey - the patterns have all been posted so no one is waiting for that!

This is the friendly reminder that this is the month for: Quilting and Binding! Make sure you get your photos to Teri to post in the gallery!

Also, the BOM is now officially at its end...and there have been no volunteers to host the 2007-2008 BOM! Is our new tradition going to end already? It doesn't take much time, and you can do it as a newbie (Heck, I just did!)...

If someone else with more time doesn't come forwards I will do it, but only as a last resort as it would be a shame to loose the group BOM tradition so soon! I had a ball with the last 2 years worth!

Thanks for hosting! You did a great job, they were all fun blocks. And thanks for the reminder -I'm even not too late! the quilt is lying half pinned on the table at this very moment! Roberta in D

Ditto! Thank you so much!

I'm a couple of months behind (that's an understatement), but I've got summertime to catch up. I started off trying to make all three blocks each month.

And isn't Carol's cat quilt just great!

Hee hee! I am more than a couple months behind, but I figure I might finish some day! Carol's quilt is gorgeous, and I'm sure her mother is going to love it!

Same here -- one day!

One of our local quilts shops has an all-day Sunday catch-up-on-UFOs time. We don't have to pay like at some of the other shops. We can bring our machines, sit in the back classroom, shoot the breeze, and sew up a storm. I think I'll take my blocks there on Sundays during the summer. They open at 11:00 AM. There are tons of places around to grab lunch too. I'm ready. Now I just have to find the project box where I put all the BOM stuff.

Sorry, but finishing this has taken a backseat to life . I am winding up the signature block quilts for the church family that is moving, have a summer wardrobe to make for DD, have a 13yo moving in with us at the end of the month....I *do* have all the patterns printed out and actually did half of them. I might use them as teaching tools for the 13yo because she *will* learn the basics of sewing while she is here. DS wants to start learning how to sew as well, so it will be completely chaotic around here this summer.

Not only that, but I will be homeschooling them this summer as well...nothing seriously studious, but using "Summer Bridge Activities" which will review what htey should have learned in the grade that they are finishing and will give them a preview of what they will be taught in the next grade. With any luck, this will help both DS and DN do better next year. DN needs a LOT of love, support, and patience....she almost failed out this year, but since nearly the entire 7th grade failed and 60-80% of them are already supposed to be in 8th or 9th grade, NONE of them are allowed to take summer school - there just aren't enough teachers to teach them everything they should have learned during the school year. SO......DN may be staying with us for the school year, who knows .

I *will* get the BOM quilt done by the end of the year though .

Goodness Lissa! That's a lot of life happening in your house! And here I thought I was busy!

Good luck with the summer school business, I have been keeping homeschooling in my brain as an alternative and as a supplement - I know it's going to be in my life in the next few years!

LOL Homeschooling the entire school year is NOT an option for us because of the special needs the both children have (although DD seems to be outgrowing her delays, which is outstanding!). In order for DS to receive the help he is entitled to under an IEP, he has to be in public school...well, any school other than homeschooling. I'm sure that we could hire a tutor or whatever, but under the "No child left behind" laws, the school he is currently enrolled in is required to help him. Anyway, he is doing *so* much better this year - 5 out of 5 golden apple awards (given to children who receive all goods or excellents on their report cards!) and his behavior is improving to the point htat he brings home nearly all good marks on his daily behavior chart. He would NOT have a chart like that if I were homeschooling him - surroundings are too familiar and he would be too tempted to run to his room for toys.

However, the SBA books are excellent. I even have one for Rebekah already, though it is a little ahead of what she will be learning in school. Of course, just to prove us wrong, she sat in her carseat and said, "S-T-O...whats that letter mommy?..oh yeah, P. That spells stop, you need to stop Mommy!" This from a 3.5yo!! and she is reading store names and words that we write down for her and Thomas...she likes to pretend she doesn't know much, but every now and then she slips up.

Tomorrow is a visit to the back cracker to see if we can get this joint to loosen up a bit more...then rush back home so that DH can get the yard work done and i can spend gardening time with the kiddos - so far we have radishes, green beans, carots, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, and potatoes growing, as well as a sunflower that Rebekah planted. Nothing producing veggies yet, but the plants are certainly growing!! Every day that it has not been raining, they want to go out and check the plants and take turns watering them....looks like I'll have some lovely salads in a month or so :-)

We are also going to be taking day trips to some of the parks and historical areas around us (Lord knows there are enough historical places that we can visit!) and hopefully that will broaden the minds of all the children. I do have to make a promise not to cause a scene at MOnticello....they are passing the room above his bedroom as his wardrobe - read Sally Hemings and you will come away with a more plausible (IMHO) option.

Anyway, while all this is going on, we are trying to prepare ourselves for a lawsuit. Have been tlaking with an attorney because we discovered that there were never any final inspecitons done on the additions tha tthe previous owners had done to the house (2nd story added in 2001, garage added in 2003...we didn't buy the house until 2005). We have been informed that we have until august of this year to file a fraud lawsuit against him, however, we are first taking the more polite track...the attorney will be writing him a letter explaining that we have discovered that there were never any final inspections done and that, to avoid the lawsuit, he needs to rectify the situation by having the final inspections done (and covering any costs associated with having them done), have the framing inspeciton done for the garage (not sure why that was never done, and we have already put up sheetrock, so that's going to be an issue), AND, if anything is found to not be up to code, he will have to rectify that situation as well. Now, here's the thing, fraud comes into play because the house was illegaly sold - should not have been sold without the final inspections done and any defects handled to bring it up to code. Had we known that there had never been any final inspections done, we would have made that a requirement before we ever signed the contract. Because he KNEW that they hadn't been done and withheld that information, he could be in a LOT of trouble. We are hoping that he will handle the final inspecitons with grace and that everything is up to code....otherwise, we may not be able to live here while the lawsuit plays out...not a good thing because we'd still be paying the mortgage on this house while we had temp housing until this whole thing was settled.

Anyway.....lots of life happening....time to stop and take a breather before anything else goes south...lol
