If somebody thinks they can't learn more they didn't know much in the first place. Don't worry about it.

I had been sewing for years (I think my first machine was chiseled from stone) when I first gave quilting a shot. Rude awakening, I still haven't really mastered that turbo charged pizza cutter thingy....just damned dangerous in my opinion....but that's a whole nuther thread...I'm Type A+ BTW and the skin grafts are taking nicely. I compare my seamstress skill to quilting skills as that of a structural engineer doing brain surgery. Scary thought! The good news is that RCTQ welcomes one and all without discriminating against race, creed, religion, point of origin, sexual preference, gender, 'what were they thinking' color combinations, whether cats or dogs are preferred QIs, or (thank God) skill level. Just bring chocolate, don't feed the gators, pat the furry butts......and contribute generously to Polly's Emergency Bail Money fund.

Hi Robyn, I'm thinking you probably remember your first post better than the rest of us do. Personally, I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday. So don't worry. As for learning -- it's all a big ol' curve. Whatever it is you know how to do in life, parts of it will transfer to other things and parts will just get in the way. (my own personal bit of wisdom, maybe the only bit I have) Now, how long ago did you make your daughter's wedding dress? Do you still have scraps? Are you planning to use those scraps? You know, I've been thinking of a white on white Mariner's Compass for a long time (I have the fabric, just haven't pulled the trigger) and I bet there are a lot of quilts that would look great with bits of wedding dress in them.

was it you that wanted to make a moderately complex applique quilt? and had gone to a class which had encouraged you to bring anything, but the teacher wouldn't/couldn't help you? That sounded like a c*ck up in whoever wrote the class description, even if most of us did think the particular quilt was a little hard too! Quilting is not as easy as it looks, but you'll get the hang of it, it's quite a different skill set from dress making, you have to cut and sew fairly accurately for that, but then the human being you are fitting it to changes sizes and you have to do all the adjusting - quilts are flat, they don't change size, so it's different, but you'll get there and I bet there will be some techniques, such as curved piecing that you'll be great at.
