Baby quilt because Polly made me!

Bronnie, the black and gold one is made from identical hexagon triangles ( kalideoscope or stack and whack cutting technique). You sew the triangles in sets of three, not sewing the last seam that would make it into a hexagon. Just pin that seam together so you can lay the blocks out on the design wall. When the layout is finalized, the pins are removed, all the seams are then straight. No set in seams! Just make sure you take them off the wall and sew the seams in the right order. I must have a Bermuda triangle somewhere in my sewing room. I can take things off the wall, carry them to the sewing machine and then sew the wrong seam. I screwed up the very first one (a short seam ...yea!) on this project. So I pinned every seam right at the design wall before removing them!

One of the hints in the book was to not have "too many colors" in your fabric. (What's too many?? I'm not sure) If you look through some of the pictures on Flicker or Webshots, you'll see there are some with just a couple colors. I'm not sure I like those all that well.....and I'd think they would be boring to sew after a while. My thought was to have a large print that had chunks of color...and it worked well. I bought the book and the fabric on a whim. I still think the rose color is a strange combination with the black and gold animal prints. And it's not really black.....the background is a dark, dark, dark, brown. When I cut the black borders I was stopped cold....uh oh. So I went on a shopping trip and found a really dark brown Kona at Joann's. Yea! I got it home and it looked like a light brown next to my OBW blocks. Sigh...so I just went with the black border fabric and I think maybe I'll have the quilting in the border done in a dark dark brown....if there is such a color. Anyone need a couple yards of brown Kona?? Thanks for your comments!

Cool! I didn't know there was a pattern for the faces. At least then you wouldn't have to worry about running out of the fabric!

Wow!!! Love the baby quilt, too cute for words....as for the one block wonder, it's gorgeous and I can't wait to see it quilted and done. Are you a free hand quilter? I'm very interested in seeing how you will do the quilting on this one. Random, grid pattern, straight lines, curly lines??? It's amazing! Donna
