Back home from California

DH and I had a great week - sunny, warm weather every day. Toured the LA area, had a quick visit to San Diego (Rosie's is wonderful!), then off to Ontario to attend the Road to California show. I volunteered for white glove duty on Friday, and got to talk to tons of quilters. Didn't take any classes, but spent all day Saturday at the show with DH. Stocked up on several cones of Superior thread, and managed to get some extra bobbins for my Juki. There were some awesome quilts in the show. Many had wonderful machine quilting, but they are so quilted that there is no loft left in the quilt. I don't mind lots of quilting on a wall hanging, but can't imagine sleeping under some of the "stiff" bed quilts. My only complaint about white gloving was the lack of information. The artist statements for each quilt were very short, didn't mention if they used a pattern, and rarely spoke of techniques. It was difficult to answer all the questions that were asked. Didn't stop to try out any long-arm machines this time, as I don't have any room for one, and I'm quite content hand guiding my quilts through my Juki. Our hotel in Ontario was awesome - full breakfast included each morning, and just across the parking lot from the convention center. Our trip was great, but we were both happy to be home in Florida. Still getting over the jet-lag, as neither of us adjusted to the 3 hour time difference very well. Back to laundry, and getting my things ready for teaching my group on Wednesday.

Welcome back, Susan. Sounds like a wonderful trip. But, now, please: what did you bring us?

R/Sandy--also found California a great place to visit, both times we lived there ;-P

Didn't do too much shopping. Picked up a couple of 1/2 yards of batik for my appliqué projects, some floral prints that were on sale. I did spend quite a bit on thread! I've been trying to use up some of my stash. Next time I'll treat to some goodies....... :-)

We are always glad for having folks visit. Too many don't go home! Quilters are the exception though. We welcome you guys to stay : ) I would think you folks in Tx are sort of getting to feel the same way about folks from CA invading. I know more than a few from here that have bugged out to all that Texas gas to offer. I think California folks wore out their welcome to Oregon years ago.

Well, it's not just the gas market; it's the real estate prices and other low cost of living. And the weather's not too bad, esp. if you like it HOT!!!!! AND I think we have more quilt shops. AND the biggest quilt show in the world. ;-P The yankee invasion has been going on so long, what's a few hundred thousand folks from the west coast? ;-D

R/Sandy-- originally a yankee (still am); my yankee great-grandparents used to meet other yankees fresh off the train in s.Tx., show them where & what to buy
