I've been meaning to try the Matilda's Own, but haven't had the chance yet. How do you feel it compares to Hobb's for warmth and durability? From what I have read thus far about working properties, it seems a number of people feel the Hobb's has a slight edge there, particularly regarding machine quilting. Apparently the bonding on the Hobbs is slightly superior to the scrim on the Matilda's Own? Though Matilda's Own has enough different wool blends now, as well as pure wool, that I would have to go back and re-read to sort out which specific batts they were talking about.

Hmph. Went to the HoP site to see what batting is on sale and didn't see any. Did I miss the sale?

I love the Matilda's Own but haven't used Hobb's so I can't compare the two. I haven't noticed any sort of scrim on the Matilda's Own, and I think what I have is the pure wool. I bought 6 of them and still have 2 left. I did pre-wash in warm and dry in the dryer on medium and it washes beautifully even before quilting. I always machine quilt and haven't ever had a problem with either the Matilda's or the Warm and Natural that I usually use.

Hi Pat,

I'm marking that one down! Sorry, I was so slow to respond. Haven't been able to read RTCQ for a few days.

Haven't used Matilda's Own, but *love the Hobbs wool.

Was reading something recently that talked about bonded vs needlepunched and seemed to say that bonded is likely to have a more supple drape.

Just tried Hobbs PolyDown on this last QOV and so far am really impressed. It feels yummy and behaved well, and quilted a lot like the wool. I can't wait to get the binding on to see what happens after it's washed.

I like wool for its breathability, but I'm not feeling quite so anti- poly as I used to. May not be buying any more cotton/cotton blends now.

Second confession of the night: I don't pre-wash *anything.
