I didn't go to the NEC but I bet my sister did. She lives about 20minutes from there. I'll have to ring her and get her report. One day I'll get to my old home town at the right time of the year and get to see it myself. Maybe. Ruth Sydney

HI Ruth, it really was better than ever this year, the only problem is ,getting there. As I live in the North West uk and the NEC is in the Midlands we have the motorway to contend with, believe me traffic is just bumper to bumper all the way. Irene (vernie)

I have given up going there by road, Irene - and I don't live as far as you do, but the M42 is so unpredictable - except for its busy-ness!. I now go by train. I drive to Wolverhampton and train from there. Birmingham International Station is part of the NEC complex -a simple, undercover walk (though quite long) from the exhibition halls. No traffic to contend with at all. Coming from the north west, check out the Virgin London trains. It is one of those that I pick up at Wolverhampton. If you have to change at Birmingham New Street, it is not a hassle at all - usually the same or next platform. I found the traffic getting *out* of the car park at the end of the day, on to the M42 was so horrendous that I just had to find another way. .

I so agree with you. It does mean you can't buy heavy or huge gadgets, but mostly they will send those ;-) I go down to stay with a friend in Kenilworth, and drive to Coventry (5 miles) or get a lift, then it's 20 mins by train.

This time I missed having to walk to the car in a thunderstorm too, which added to my smugness! With the car parking so dear (=A312, I heard) I actually got there cheaper into the bargain. More to spend inside!!!

I wish they had some of those fancy thimbles to try inside. I hunted, but never found any. However, I'm not sure about those holes in the top. Last time I tried one of those, it slipped and I got the needle under my nail. Ouch! NOT a recommended manoeuvre!
