happy dance for a top finished

I have another top to add to my hope chest. [from the tradition that a girl had to have 13 quilt tops completed before her engagement -- then was supposed to quilt them all before the wedding.] How many do I need completed before my divorce is final? This one makes 5 I think. ;-)

This one was made from blocks sent me for my birthday from various friends. I think setting sampler type quilt is one of my most favorite activities these days :-)

Stars-in-the-sashing is a setting I've been wanting to try for a long time and it seemed to really fit this quilt. I started with plain setting squares but 12" hunks of a neutral fabric looked so totally blah. 9 patches of mixed WOW and COC were more fun to work with. And lots of stash was used up for the scrappy stars and 9 patches. Wellll, not lots, but I didn't buy anything but 3 fat eighths of cream. I had planned to buy some dark something to make a border but I may just use a narrow binding of dark chocolate and leave it at that.

Wonderful! You've combined two of my favorite fabrics -- neutrals AND tone-on-tones. The setting is gorgeous! Great job.

Very nice, Anne. I really like the mixture of white and cream that you used for the background, and the sashing stars came out beautifully. Perhaps you could make a simple, pieced border of darks? then you still might not need to buy anything! . In message , Anne in CA writes

Piggybacking here to say how much I like this quilt. Those stars in the sashing really make this one sing! I think a border of some sort would "finish" this off nicely -- and I like quilts to be generous in size on the bed. :)

This is lovely! The stars really pull all the sampler designs together, and the chain effect is wonderful. I agree that all it needs is a chocolate binding. Roberta in D

Thanks Mary. Maybe I will try for the title of Duchess of Sampler Settings. Not up to carrying off the full duties of a Queen ... :-)

Thank you Louise. I was looking again at your Rose Sampler and admiring the sashing in that.

Thanks Nancy. I've been having as much fun with settings as with actual blocks lately :-)

Thanks Patti. I need to pull out the rest of my darks and see what calls the loudest, I guess.

Thank you Estelle. I had planned a more elaborate border but I think it only needs a simple one.

Hmmmm. Blue? Leave it to you Marisa to head me off in a whole 'nother direction.

Thank you Roberta. That was what I was striving for -- pulling together disparate elements. I am just afraid if I make too elaborate a border it would dilute that effect. Besides, the dang thing is b-i-i-i-i-g. The only quilt I've ever done that size was tied ...
