Bloomin' blooming nine-patch journal

A couple of month ago, I asked for ideas on how to enlarge a blooming

9-patch, since i'm really mathematically challenged! Well, here's the result -- it really got out of hand! rusty

Thank you for sharing! That is positively beautiful and makes me want to create one too! Not enough time now, but maybe in my wish list!

Rusty, it turned out beautifully! :) Is that a king-sized bed or a queen? If the latter, the quilt is about the same size as the one I made.

I don't know what size exactly, Sandy. It's 100x110 -- Its on a queen size bed with a featherbed added to keep it off the floor. You give he hope, lady; maybe I *will* keep it. I had thought about giving it to my son for Christmas, since they have a king size bed...hmmmmm.... rusty

So gorgeous! I am in awe of you guys who can complete a quilt that size and with a complex pattern and finish it. You did an awesome job.

Rusty it's glorious. I love it. Congratulations on a 'job' so very well done. I love the photo series. What a good idea.

(It's so amusing to me, you with this 'monster' and I'm making a very, very small one with 1.5" nine patches >g< ie half inch squares!!!). I'll have to put pictures of mine on my photo site eventually, but it won't be a patch on yours. . In message , rusty writes

Gorgeous quilt!! I really like how the colours blend from one to another. This is a good example of how a simple pattern can have stunning results (well simple to sew at any rate but not so simple to keep track of the blocks I would wager!) Allison in Montreal

That is gorgeous. I have been wanting to do a blooming 9-patch, but not one that big. I saw one at a quilt shop I was visiting, and instead of the flowers, the person used all different frog prints! The owner of the shop was teaching the class, and that is what the student wanted to use. It was adorable. It goes to show that you can try different themes with good results.

Rusty, I kept mine. I like longer quilts on a bed so that they function as bedspreads. Yours is about 5" larger than mine, which would be taken up by your featherbed. :)

Wow Rusty! I can't believe you don't want to keep this beauty. It's gorgeous. I really enjoyed seeing your journey. I've had the fabrics for this quilt (blues and yellows, also using 10 fabrics) for a couple of years and it's next up on my list. Mine should end up the same size as yours. I'm not sure if seeing yours has encouraged or daunted me! LOL

I now have a definite deadline though. It must be completed by

10/31/2008. I have a gift certificate to my long-arm quilter that expires then. She will definitely be quilting this quilt.

Thanks for sharing!
