genealogy with scrapbooking??

I am planning to have a family reunion this summer. What I would like to get a either 6x6 or 8x8 album and put each person with their life (my grandparents had 11 children and 38 grandchildren - some great grandchildren). What I wanted to create each page about each person and who did they married to and their children (that me and all my 1st cousins) and so on. Any suggestions???? I have been doing genealogy since 1990. I really appreciates very much. Marcella

Kudos & my sympathies to you. LOL I've planned a couple of family reunions & I know how much work they are. Rewarding, tho.

9 children & 23 grandchildren in mine. I forget how many greats at least count.

Are you wanting each person to make a page to contribute to one album before or while at the reunion? Or are you planning on making up multiple copies to distribute.

I'm a digital scrapper (most albums 8.5"x11" so far), which easily lends itself to the latter. 7 copies is the max I've done of any one album to date, but I do plan to make a "big" album (meaning covering all 9 branches of the family tree) one day so I can distribute to anyone who wants one.

My existing ones aren't the page-per-person format, but you're welcome to check them out to see if you get any ideas.

Albums 1-5, 7 & 9 are either genealogy-related or may have ideas that could be adapted. Two things that I liked were the newspaper format I used on the cover of album #3. The other was a timeline showing what was going on in my family's life (this album was done for two aunts/ uncles & their families) next to what was going on in the U.S. & the world at the same time. Meaningful for the younger generations, since we weren't there at the time.

For album #2 (for my parents 40th anniversary) I had family & friends submit photos & memories. The 1958 page is an example, tho the memories are my dad's. For album #5, my cousin visited my dad on numerous occasions, taking a tape recorder with her. She asked him questions to elicit memories. Sometimes she'd ask questions based on photos I had & in other cases I'd try to match photo(s) to her questions. Something along those lines might work for you, if you have photos already. Or, you could ask family to bring copies of photos if you're doing one big album, then have them write narrative to go with the pics.

(Note: Last names/personal info have been edited out on the versions I posted on the web for privacy reasons. Printed copies have complete names/info.)

Isn't genealogy fun? I started back in high school long before the internet. Started digital scrapbooking (didn't know anyone else was doing it or that it had a name) back in '97. The 2 hobbies really complement each other nicely.

Good luck with your project. Keep us posted!

Would it be for you only or would you make one for each person? Either way, that's a lot of pages. :-) It would definately be something future generations would like to see, though. There's always the nostalgic line of papers and embellishments you find. But I always picture old photos with that line. What about something like this?

DH bought me a big pack of this line for Christmas. I think he got it at Hobby Lobby. It has all three color schemes in it. It has a rustic look to it, but also has lots of color to it, too. I'm currently in the process of using a couple sheets of it on my Feb. challenge. I'll post it when it's done.
