More Digital Layouts Posted

OK, finally got some sample pages from 2 more of my albums posted. Albums #4 & #7 are similar; they're each for different siblings of my dad's. Got a little carried away with #7 -- it's about 200 pages! (No, I didn't post all of them. LOL)

Can't remember if I posted that #5 was uploaded awhile back.

I love how you've incorporated the wooden tree into the albums, Alicia. What a tribute to family history! The Valentine is such a treasure, and it's great you were able to use it. Great job!

Thanks, everyone. And I'm not done yet! LOL (Am I NUTS?!) I have an album in progress for dad's mom's side of the family. That was originally supposed to be combined with dad's paternal side of the family (an expanded & updated version of my original album, in other words), but after seeing how much I have for Grandma's side of the family, I think I'll split them up.

Glad you liked the tree, Deb. :-) They were originally made for a family reunion in 1986. There is one piece for dad & each of his 8 siblings, plus the trunk & the base (not scanned & used in the album). Each tree is actually cut apart as a puzzle, & stands upright. (The pieces were stained different colors after they were cut apart.) On the front of the tree are the names of dad, his siblings & all of their spouses, for a total of 18 names, plus grandma & grandpa on the tree trunk, along with the date & location of their wedding (getting close to 100 years ago now). On the back of each piece (not scanned) are the children of the 9 couples (me & my cousins), a total of 24 of us. On the back of the trunk was "75th Anniversary Reunion" with the date & location. My great grandparents & the countries our ancestors came from are on the base. Each tree was hand lettered (by me) in calligraphy using a white ink that took 1-3 dips in the ink per letter to do. Oh, did I mention that we made 25 of them (one for each in my generation plus one for my folks)? Yep, I was definitely nuts. LOL

Each of dad's generation (9 of them, plus me) got a handmade wooden notebook. The tree pattern (no lettering, thank goodness!) was cut out of a thin sheet of wood veneer, the pieces stained to look like the puzzle trees, & the layer of veneer glued to the front surface of the notebook.

The greatgrandkids' generation each got a small wooden tree (about 6")

-- same color as their family's piece on the puzzle tree. Their name was on the front & the info about the reunion on the back. I think there were 24 or 25 in that generation at the time.

Plus, we'd put together genealogies (I started that hobby during high school) & word puzzles with family trivia. Whew!

Great Job Alicia! Something that will be valued by generations to come. I love the photo "Bob Mc in the Navy 1944". Amazing how good the quality of the pictures was in those days!

Your family heritage albums are wonderful, Alicia! And inspiring! I hope I can do an album half as beautiful and well organized with my family's photos. You've given me some great ideas. Thank you!

Thanks!

Photoshop for scanning & manipulating the photos. Pagemaker for doing the layouts.

If you didn't want to create the pages on the computer & if you have a scanner, you could also scan the pages of a traditional scrapbook, print the images & share those with family. And/or share them on CD. I do both, as it gives people the option to have more copies printed if they want.

You're welcome. Have fun with your project!

I had fun with the last family album (not posted yet). It's different from the earlier family albums. It's still a "work in progress".

Very impressed with your albums Alicia....I love the way they look....elegant and easy on the eye! Some of the old photos are just fantastic and speak for themselves without artificial embellishment.... truly treasured memories! I have no photos of my family prior to my marriage...when Mum died my sister picked the house clean, even though Dad is still living there. I am currently trying to do an album of my Mum using what pictures I have and a few I have managed to get from my oldest brother. If it ends up I don't have enough I will just include them in my albums but I would prefer to have a book dedicated to Mum memory.

Thanks, Marilyn!

Would she let you borrow them, scan them & return them? Or her go with you somepleace you could make color copies so they're never out of her sight (if she's afraid you won't return them)?

When my dad's mom gave up housekeeping, she divided up the photos among all her kids. (Since she came to live with us, we got the extras that she didn't know what to do with along with the ones she wanted with her.) Most of my cousins have been great about sharing what they inherited from their parents. I wish the rest would understand that I don't want to keep their photos, just scan them & return them so I can share with everyone (&, in turn, share photos I got from others with them). :::sigh:::
