I *finally* managed to get some sample pages from the album Dave likes up on webshots this weekend. It's "Pattison Family Memories" (aka "Album #9") at

I've been doing genealogy & gathering family stories & photos since I was in high school. Finally got around to taking some of the stories (from my dad & some of his cousins) & putting them together with what photos I have to go with them into an album (a work in progress) about his mother's side of the family. I have more tapes to transcribe & a few more people to get memories from. Now if I could only find more photos.

Wow Alicia...that is just wonderful! All those great pictures. I love the title and the "ghosted" house on the other page. Thanks for sharing!

Alicia! I am amazed at all of the personal details you were able to record in your album. Those are treasured memories that are not often remembered and saved for future generations. I really love the cruise memories, the itinerary, and how all the places visited were remembered..that is so great! I can imagine being on a cruise for that long! Amazing. What a treasure you have in your family history! I also like the way you copied the handwriting off the back of the photos. It really captures the "time". I am doing a small heritage album for myself and my sisters, and will have to remember to do that for some of the pictures I have. I am going to copy some of my mothers recipes with her handwriting on them. Thank you so much for sharing your hard work..fantastic!

Oh wow Alicia! You've done a lot of work on the album, collecting pictures and memories. It's come together wonderfully! I look forward to the day that I can do a heritage album. I especially want to start it with my mom who has all the old family photos and stories.

Alicia, Your album is wonderful. As a genealogist and historian I certainly feel for the work you are putting into the journaling. You are definitely preserving memories. I love the faded picture in the background. I am going to scraplift the idea if you don't mind. As a child I grew up in four houses within a three block radius. My parents, grandparents (who actually raised me), my great-grandmother's and my grandmother's sister (whose house we own now). I like the idea for the houses in the background to show where we were when the pictures were taken. Sandy

I've seen this album in person and it is amazing. Makes me want to start digital scrapping! Thanks for sharing Alicia.

Other than the cruise journal, about a third is thanks to my cousin interviewing my dad for his memories & another third is from one of dad's cousins who made an hour-long tape of his memories. I just transcribed the tapes (or took my cousin's transcription) & used that.

cruise for that long! Amazing.

Imagine a single woman in her early 40s making that trip in 1928! And many thanks to her (she was my great aunt) for keeping the journal. The itinerary was just me going through her journal & putting it together on one page (I was getting confused without it! ).

Thanks! Lots more to put together.

Glad you liked it!

Thanks, Deb!

Start now, at least collecting what you want to put into it. You can always "make it pretty" later when you have time, but if you're like me & can't remember everything they've told you, you don't want to risk not having your mom or others you want stories/info from around when you finally find time to "do it right". I've lost many older family members in the past half dozen years (including my mom) & wish I'd taken the time & effort to get what they were willing to share when I could. No one left on mom's side of the family & only dad & one brother left (out of 9 kids) on his.

Oh, good! Another genealogist in the group. Haven't done too much with mine lately (as far as research), but hope to get back to it when I get the photos under control (they keep multiplying! ).

Scraplift away! I'm the kind who likes to put who/what/when/where with my photos, but that can get repetitive when a number of them are taken at the same place &/or the same day. Came up with an idea for my most recent album, which was a week-long family vacation at the beach, with almost all of the photos being taking in or around the house we rented. I made a banner (about 3/4" along the bottom of the page where I put the date & location for all the pics on the page. Used a different color for each day. Saved lots of repetition.

Alicia, it's georgeous. I really admire all the hard research you've put into it. I'm into geneology too and it is tremendous effort though, as you know, very rewarding. Your presentation is amazing. I've marked you as a favorite [webshot] member so I can visit again and really dig into it. Keep up the great work, your family is very lucky to have such a dedicated and talented historian.
