bow-tie quilt

I would like to make a bow-tie quilt using old jeans and don't know if that would work ??? I am thinking about using old jeans as bow-tie with flannel materials in it?? Let me know what do you think? Just curious about this project. Marcie

Marcie:

I have made a few quilts with old jeans. The largest was 'tumbling blocks' - and I think that your 'bowtie' idea would work very nicely. Just make sure that your joining seams at the corners are solid- maybe go over them a couple of times. That way, when you wash your quilt the joins won't come apart and fray. I really love using up old jeans and have all types of sample patterns around the house as I find that I don't mind practicing with something that has already been used a time or two.8-) I suggest that you do a sample to see how you 'feel' about it. If you change your mind, that practice square could be one side of a bag, some day...or the center of a picnic quilt...or part of a dog bed...

Sounds like a doable idea. Do big blocks. might even work as a rag quilt, but I have no experience with these. The 3-D bowtie would be easier than the traditional one. Roberta in D
