These are lovely! I bought the Piece-lique book a few weeks ago, but haven't tried anything.

Saw it demoed on Simply Quilts a while back...I like Sandy's version of it better.
Butterfly
Thanks, but in all fairness, the one on SQ had to fit the 30-minute time frame, and we had all day to work and the ability to take it with us afterwards to continue. This was the pattern Sharon provided for us to do in the day-long class.
You can use this technique for just about any curved pattern (or uncurved, for that matter!). :) The advantage to using her patterns is that they come with the freezer paper already printed with the pattern, as well as another freezer paper sheet with the layout (so you cut one up and leave the other for a placement guide) and the CD of instructions.
LOL! The hummingbird is my *least* favorite technique, Butterfly. Have you ever tried to hand stitch through four layers of fabric bonded to two layers of the heaviest weight of Heat-n-Bond? Ugh!
I know that Sharon Schamber left camp on Wednesday afternoon to go home for a day or two before leaving for another teaching assignment, but I don't remember where. It could be that she's in Iowa right now!
And even with her special needles, sewing through that heat and bond Ultra is a pain in the patoot! KJ
That'd be great! You know, it was in the back of my mind that I had seen that she was going to be in Iowa, but I thought that was just one of those phantom ideas that float around sometimes! I'll have to do some more searching to see where she's going to be and when, and then maybe - just maybe - I'll have to order her book to keep me satisfied in the meantime!
You've got *that* right, KJ! For some reason, this project isn't "calling" to me as much as the other three. ;)
Thanks so much for all the info.
I have been trying to do "no glue/bond" applique but may have to change my mind I think. Most of the methods I use are closer to those of Jane Townswick. Have you seen "Applique Takes Wing"? Gorgeous Birds, Butterflies and Dragonflies - the latter with sheer wings. But this has made me more determined than ever to try Sharon Schamber's techniques as well.
Your work is just amazing. I hope you will share pictures of the progress.
You're more than welcome, Cheryl! :)
I haven't seen her work -- but I'll google it in a minute. ;)
Good! Go for it. Once everything is glued together, it's very movable -- no worries about pieces shifting and getting messed up. :)
Gosh, thanks, Cheryl! I'll post more pics as I finish things.
I can't say I enjoyed my project either. But I was glad to actually finish it rather than getting it partially done and abandoning it.
As usual, Sandy, they are all great! I especially like "Old Rose". Camp sounds like so much fun!!
Thanks, Donna -- I really like that one, too. :) Camp really is fun -- come join us! :)
I think I feel the same way you do -- and your project is gorgeous! I'm thinking I might just work on the hummingbird project next, so that I'm not tempted to let it sit forever.
We can't travel with the gators anyway. Perhaps the disguise we used to get them through airport security just wasn't a good choice. Polly
"Sandy Foster" > Thanks so much, Polly. Come on over and fondle to your heart's content.
Looks like you had a blast! I wish we had something like your "Quilt Camp" around here! I have to watch how much time I spend in the US - don't want to lose my Ontario health insurance, and I also don't want to stay here while there is snow. Our Grand Canyon trip in the spring means that we can't head south until 1 Nov this year. I just hope we don't have an early snowfall, although cooler weather would be appreciated right now!

Getting that hummingbird project finished would be wonderful. It really is a beauty when done. Promise yourself something "funner" to do upon finishing it. You will get lots of wonderful feedback when you finish. Especially from people who aren't quilters and are fascinated by the three dimentional parts. Thank you for the compliment. It's done...the best part. I could go on and on about what I don't like about it...but it's done. Yea. KJ
Maybe one day, Sandy!!
I did have a blast, Susan -- as usual. I wish you could attend -- we get people from all over the place, including as far away as Alaska and Mexico City this year and France a couple of years ago. :)
