Completed a UFO -- Happy dancing!

I've been lurking mostly. I'm on this new kick of completing my UFOs. I have finally managed to get enough patience to finish a paper piecing wall hanging. This was a course I took with the guru of paper piecing Carol Doak back in the Spring of 1998. I had one row completed when I set it aside. You can view the quilt at:

I've written a bit about my trails and tribulations of paper piecing. I am just ecstatic that this project is finally completed.

Thanks for taking the time to view the quilt.

Good for you, Carole! It seems quite worth the patience and effort it took for you to complete it, IMO. I love leafy things! Enjoyed your blog goodies, too! :)

Carole, it's really gorgeous. Congratulations on finishing it. I waffle on paper piecing. Do I like it? Do I hate it? Quite frankly, I'm realizing I probably don't have the .... whatever it is that lets a person not only do paper piecing but do it right, finish the project in stead of hiding it in a filing cabinet drawer, and enjoy it.

Oh yeah, love your blog! I've t hought about making one myself, but figure somebody else is already saying whatever it is I would say so no need. LOL

It's lovely. I think your idea for the wider dark binding really is a great solution.

And, I am on your bus with the dread/hate/dislike whatever of paper piecing. Blech.

Looks fabulous! Although I can't quite see why paper piecing is the best solution for this particular design. I do it for a lot of things, but avoid it when it isn't necessary. Glad I learned though. Roberta in D

It looks great! Carol taught that same class for my guild. She is a great teacher. I'm not a big fan of paper piecing, but it does simplify some piecing. I liked learning it from Carol and also getting a chance to try some tessellation.

Carole, I read a bit of your blog, but I must say that your quilt is just lovely! I had no idea that Carol Doak had that pattern available. Can you tell me if it's in one of her books? You did a great job -- and don't worry about not liking to paper piece; we're not all alike, after all. How boring that would be!

Sandy,

The pattern is from her book Easy Paper-Pieced Keepsake Quilts. The book is out of print but I checked Amazon and they do have some used from sellers for $6.00. I've ordered used from Amazon and have been pleased with the service. Thanks for looking at my blog.

That's a beautiful leaf quilt!! And I'm with you on paper piecing, even stitching odd angles is easier than all that pulling of paper. A block or two is OK, but I'll bet I'd never finish a whole quilt that way. And finished are the best kind!!! (huh, Miz Ragmop ;-)

I think it turned out just lovely! I can relate, as far as paper-piecing woes go. I have a lovely pattern that I gave up on, cannot get it right! Maybe after I retire, and can putz with it some more.........

oh well done Carole!! WTG!! I too am on a finishing binge - but most of mine are only getting to finished top stage till I have decent batting :-)

I suspect you were just *so* tired of the cat appliqué that you couldn't face it anymore at the time - it happens sometimes ;-)

Well, my goodness! I have that book, but I'd completely forgotten that this pattern was in there. LOL! What's even better is that the block is also on her Designer Edition CD, so I can play with colors quite easily on my computer when I get around to doing this. Thanks for letting me know. :)
