Happy Dancing With Bears

Did that get your attention? I am not really dancing with bears, but I am Happy Dancing. Last week I finished the March UFO project. It is a table topper with Bear Paw Blocks. I started it 1988 in California, finished it

2008 in Virginia, so I call it "Cross Country Bear Tracks." Because it was finished on time, I was able to display it with the UFO group at Guild on Friday, 14 March. I did not win the drawing for that group, but I did win a door prize (small divided sewing box) and several green fat quarters. Must be the luck of the Irish!

The four blocks all have gray background. The 'paws' are all dark colors: blue, green, brown, burgundy. The various borders are mostly red or white with those colors. I have to say the gray is dreadful ... that microdot stuff we all used in the eighties. I decided to play it up instead of trying to play it down, by using a rayon vari-toned gray thread for MQ. That really helped bring it together. In two areas, I quilted some tiny bear paws within the meandering pattern. Fun. All in all, an okay project. It will be a lovely table topper for Autumn use. PAT in Virginia PS: Is 'vari-tone' a word, or did I just coin a phrase?

Oh, there's probably another word for it, but who cares? I like vari-toned.

Amazing, isn't it, that something started 20 years ago would work today. Let's see, I think I was working in blues and mauves about that time!

Happy Dancing for you Pat. I'm wondering. Is 20 years a record? It seems to me that this event really calls for more than dancing. How about a chocolate party? Polly

Sounds lovely. Congrats on getting it out of the UFO pile and getting it finished.

Twenty years is most likely NOT a record. My friend is working on a UFO she started in 1976. At the DeWitt Wallace Museum in Williamsburg, Virginia, I have seen a UFO that dated to our Colonial Era!!

Thanks for the party, Polly! And thanks to everyone who danced and partied with us. ;) To paraphrase our good buddy Ragmop: "Finished is a Good Thing!"
