Completely OT: My job

As most of you know, I work for our county's Superior Court, as a judicial assistant in the courtroom. There are lots of experiences and "interesting" situations I have seen, and had to document.

By far the happiest is the news at 5AM this morning that "my commissioner" who I have worked with most of the time for the last 3.5 years, was named up to be a judge, yesterday, one day after his birthday. What a present, huh? I will be moving with him to his new courtroom, and become officially assigned to him.

What a thrilling Thursday for him, for me, for our courthouse. He so deserves this!

That is absolutely wonderful.

This is the face of Public Employees. Fringe groups go on and on about government workers but you people make it possible for the rest of us to function.

Locally, our District Courts are on Mandatory Furlough every Friday for the next several months. A woman who is in Guild with me and who runs a gift shop was crowing about it (she doesn't believe in paying taxes) at our last Guild meeting.

I looked around the room and counted at least 10 members that I could see who work for local, county or state government. I said, "You're talking about X & Y & Z over there". Those folks patronize your gift shop. They just got their wages cut. How can you be happy about that?

People don't get it. And it's only getting worse.

There seems to be considerable support for hiring more police officers and building more prisons, but if the judiciary is expected to take huge cuts, what's the point of more officers?

Did you see the news of all the criminals in CA that they let go because they have no money to keep them in lock up? Now they are out running around causing trouble and DS is busy sending them back. They don't know how to stay out of trouble. His dept. is constantly short staffed. DH is retired from the state here. I have heard all the rude comments about how worthless state workers are. I understand the frustration about the poor way funds are used but politicians are who we need to go at for that mess. Less than a year from now when everyone does their taxes people are really going to be griping. They are going to be steaming mad. Taria

Ginger, The fact that you will be assigned to the newly appointed judge means you have the respect and confidence of your colleagues and superiors. Congratulations are due to you, too. Best wishes, Pat in Virginia

Thank you, all! It's been quite a day, getting a long jury trial out to deliberation, then starting another 10 day jury trial tomorrow afternoon. Throw in the morning law and motion calendars on top of those trials, well, I didn't have a chance to see my judge in person. [this week I have been assigned to a retired judge]. But the consensus by most is there will be no "audition" for him, he can point his finger and say "her" to my supervisors and it's done.

As a State Employee, Thank You, Cindy. I get soo tired of the remarks I overhear and the LTE in the paper about what "bad", "worthless", "useless" people we are living off the taxpayer's dime.

Hey, I pay taxes too!
