Well, I started working on DHs Mariner's Compass finally :-) I have the central medallion almost all done - it's fusible applique, but it was loads of fun to play with. Maybe next time, I will do a pieced MC, who knows .
I am stitching all of the bits and pieces down, having discovered what one of the stitches on my old machine (had it since I was 18, still learning how to work with some of the different stitches, go figure!) actually can be used for. In the end, it will measure 60"x69", which I'm thinking will actually be too big for the original intention, but, with a little additional work might make a great bed quilt. Still undecided. If I go with the original intention, it will definitely cover the messy drywall seam in the dining room...lol. I'm thinking about taking the templates and decreasing them by 50% and making him a smaller version to hang in his office, but I am not going to make the final decision on that until this one is finished.
I also have a child's apron cut out for an upcoming birthday present. DD has been invited to a birthday party for one of her classmates, and the mother, when asked what kind of presents she would like for her daughter, told me that Keaton would like flower seeds. SO.....I've bought a bunch of different seeds, and thought that having a child size gardening apron would be pretty cool as well. It will result in an inexpensive birthday present and will also be promotion for my sewing business. DD was also invited to a party that is being held on the same day as her brother's, and for that little girl, who is having a "princess party", I will be making a pink cotton and purple tulle princess dress (easy for mom to wash).
So, I guess I'm back in the swing of things :-)
Oh, and I received a phone call from a lovely lady who works with Habitat for Humanity and is also the coordinator for the local Cinderella Project. She contacted me last year for help with alterations, and was checking to see if I would still be interested in helping out this year. She also invited me to be one of the fairy godmothers and assist the girls in choosing their dresses. I am planning on heading out this Saturday to help out, but have let her know that I can't be there every weekend given that I *do* have a family. She assured me that whatever help I could give would be fine, and remembered that we had discussed me repairing a zipper in a dress that had been damaged in last year's prom season, and therefore was unable to be available for a girl to use. WooHoo!!
Hubby told me that he didn't mind me spending the afternoon there because it was the right thing to do....later he said that I needed to remember that, while they may be getting prom gowns right now, the girls will be getting married one day, and maybe they would remember me for their dresses or their bridesmaid dresses.
