At the second hand store I found a Singer French addtion treadle machine. They want 50 euro for it, but I can talk him down to 35 or 40 ($75 talk down to $50ish) except for the band which needs tightening it is in perfact condition. I am busy talking my self out of it. DH says Why do you need that if the Bernina 180 shows up in 2 weeks.

Ok, just an update...I have not gone to get the machine yet. It was there this past summer and no one bought it then. I looked at it then. but I was just temporarily in France and so there was no way I could buy it. I was too timid to ask the price this last summer, also my French skills are not so good (yet). My girlfriend however knows everyone there so she is the best one to use for negociations. I depart for the US on Friday for the Jinny Beyer conference. So I have no time to do it right now. If it is there when I get back I will get it. The big thought I have is how am I going to get it to my appt? I live on a square in the city and so getting it here could be interesting.
This second hand store is AMAZING! I went there looking for rugs and I found one, A very nice one for 18 euros. As I was leaving thinking smuggly that I had gotten out of there cheap, ( 1 rug, one blanket, a box filled with 6 old wonderful german high quality knives so sharp you can slice a banana so thin you can see thru the slice (COOL!), a teapot, tart tin, cake tin, a cast iron frying pan (be still my heart), a butter dish, a flower vase and more things I can't remember. Total - 30 euro. Then I saw the copper pan set...wow! they wanted 90 euro but my girl friend talked them to 60. They are WONDERFUL! I have always wanted a set but they are so expensive new! I will pay $90 US for 4 copper pans. As you can see, the appt came with basic supplies and not much else. I am augmenting. I like to cook and when in France..... Did I mention the cheese store right around the corner?
There is also what I will call the "lace"room. Only open on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Inside that room are old linens, heirloom clothing, yarn, sometimes fabric and then two glass boxes filled with lace. When they get an old garment that is unusable, they take the lace off of it. In the states it is common that you might get handed down a box of lace bits. When the garment wore out they took off the lace (it was very expensve) and they would save it for a future use. Anyway the ladies there know the difference between the laces, some is hand made from the 1800's others are machine made from the early 1900's to today. I bought lace there ithis summer and when I looked last week they had added new things to the boxes. I will not buy, I will not buy....
In another section is the clothing, sort of like good will, I am looking very hard at the mink coat (80 euros) I always wanted one, but refuse to buy it new. My dad was a trapper when I was a kid and well I just can't buy it new. There was an I am not sure what animal fur coat that fit on the bargain rack for 8 euros...It was a little big and I know the work involved in sizing that bugger. I am holding our for the black mink.
I haven't even started talking about the furnature and the glassware...all I can say is WOW!

Yes I agree with everyone else, you can't pass this opportunity up. I would love to have one just to look at and have as an ornament when not in use. I'd pay 50Euro for one in good condition.
I kick myself many a time for giving away one I had before I married and before I was really into sewing. Every time I think of it. My shins are getting really bruised just now.
