I don't know whether or not it is still true but at one time merchant's contracts with the c.c. companies prohibited their doing that. Some try and succeed with customers who aren't (weren't) aware of it. Twice I was in a situation where my purchase was a dollar or so below the "minimum' and the cashier asked for a different method of payment. When I challenged the policy, my card was accepted with no further questions.

I haven't done business with this guy for about a year, and that is the way it was at that time. I think that click and ship is a new innovation since that time and maybe he uses it now. But, sometimes if you use a certain carrier exclusively, they give you a better rate, so that might be in play also. John
That is good to know. but certainly vendors skirt that rule all the time. I came upon it myself, once, this Christmas Season. I just went to another vendor and that was fine with me. I don't fault vendors for not wanting to work for nothing, either. So it is a double edged sword.
