EQ Newbie

Well, I finally got around to installing my EQ6. I skipped right over EQ 1 thru 5, so am an EQ Newbie! I will start 'playing' with the lessons today after work. Any helpful hints will be appreciated!

Thanks, Pat in Virginia USA

There are lots of helpful hints within the program. But don't be afraid to try something. It can be a real time sink if you aren't careful.

I'd recommend that you join Info-EQ, Pat: . It's not a terribly busy list, but there are some wonderful people there to help with any questions: Penny McMorris, Patti Anderson, and several others. In addition, you may be interested in signing up for some beginning EQ classes at QU. Have fun! :)

Re-do lesson 1 until it's 'easy' before your go to #2. I got started and got thru 4 before it got set aside.

Just have too many irons in the fire to continue on right now

My only hint....and it's from "experience" (or lack thereof) is to try to practice with it as often as you can. The lessons in the book aren't hard to do....but they are really hard to remember if it's six months or a year between uses.

That is so true ! I haven't used eq5 for about 1 yr or more and can only pick blocks and plunk them down in a quilt layout !!!! I was trying to draw a block and couldn't get rid of the graph paper look...too irritated to look up directions in the book and gave up ! Here I sit with eq6 awaiting purchase of a new pc too !!!

Thanks for the link, Sandy. I just registered. I played with the first lesson ... quite fun, but I could not find the coffee break icon that was mentioned! Yikes. PAT in VA/USA

Yes, I can see it would be tempting to do lots of virtual quilts and not have time for cloth quilts!! :D PAT in VA/USA

Someone gave me a whole book with CA designs *only*! It's interesting, of course, but that does seem to be taking virtual quilting to a whole new level! . In message , Pat in Virginia writes

Which first lesson was it, Pat? There are several series of lessons on the EQ site. As for the coffee break icon, there isn't one in EQ6; was it perhaps just in the lesson to let you know that this is a good pausing place?

Come to think of it.I never found the 'tips of the day' on mine either. Can't remember exactly 'what' it was called. Just figured I was not doing something right and would eventually 'find' it.

Oops! It just occurred to me that the lesson you referred to was the one in the book! Anyway, the coffee break icon only appears in that book, not in EQ itself.
