EQ6 is coming!

I just got 2 emails from different sources offering to take my preorder for EQ6, to be shipped at the end of November. Woo Hoo!!

It seems it will have a lot of nifty new features. More info at

I'll just be grateful if it stops locking up evey 15 minutes like my EQ5 does.

I would think that if eq5 locks up your computer then eq6 will do the same. I think it means there is not enough memory or usable space on your computer to allow the program to work properly. I seem to recall having similar problems before I upgraded to my new computer with lots of memory. I am not a computer compatible person so I can't talk specifics. I'm sure others here are much more computer literate :-)

Do you have Windows XP? I don't think EQ6 will run on any of the older versions. I ordered mine from Planet Patchwork, and it tells you exactly what you have to have. I have never had EQ5 lock up my computer. If it locks up yours, I doubt if EQ6 will be any better. You are probably running out of memory.

Sometimes EQ5 locks up for any of a number of reasons. If you are running XP (which is required for EQ6) you may have to change some of the compatablity settings for EQ5. there has been much discussion of this on the Info-EQ list. It may also lock up if you are drawing a block and don't have all the lines connected and where they need to be. Sometimes you really have to get in close with the zoom tool and make sure they are linked.

Looking forward to 6 and all the new features.

My EQ5 also locks up intermittently, and for no apparently consistent reason. Electric Quilt have never come up with a satisfactory reason or explaination either. I am not sure they know, but if they do they don't want to 'fess up. Maybe the fix would be too hard to implement and they just wanted to wait for EQ6. It is definitely not a memory (as in PC capacity) problem.

EQ6 upgrades are available for EQ4 and EQ5 users but not for older versions of the software - not unreasonable as EQ3 is now VERY old software. Hopefully - no more lock-ups after November. Yay!!!!!

This excitement is like Microsoft releasing new software. Well, no, not really. Microsoft tend to use their customers as guinea pigs to do their final testing lol. Maybe I mean the release of a new Playstation or a new HP book. Will quilters be lining up at midnight to get their copies of the software? Will there be little huddled groups of stitchers camped outside shops stitching away in the middle of the night, anxiously waiting to get their hands on their "new toy" roflmao

Thankheavens for pre-ordering on the internet!

My EQ crashes occasionally when I go to color blocks. I have to remember to save a block before I color it, or all could be lost. The only advice they ever gave was to remove and reinstall, and it never worked.

I got that email too!! Then I couldn't find my registration number to qualify for the upgrade. I think I found it when I opened EQ5 and went to Help | About EQ5.

Do you think this means they will come out with a whole series of new books too?

Got my upgrade ordered yesterday from my LQS - Sunshine Sewing Company. I have been taking a paper piecing class so I can actually do the monthly pp block in the BOM challenge! (It is a challenge for me.)

Perhaps I will actually be able to get through the instruction book when I get the upgrade. I am soooooo slow.

I have two suppliers here in the UK willing and eager to take my order (upgrade). Both are going to Houston though to order/discuss with the EQ6 people. One said that it is hoped that it would be ready by 20th November, if it comes out of the tests ok, so just crossing my fingers. Both are going to e-mail me when they come back with more information/prices

Sally, I read this morning that they're anticipating shipping around the end of November, with us receiving our copies at the beginning of December. :) I'm going to pre-order when I get back from Houston, where I'm hoping to see a demo of EQ6 and to hear whether they've had any further word about compatibility with Macs running emulation software.
