I've made fabric books for my granddarlings. What I did was make complete little quilts in the normal fashion (birthed the pages and bound the cover) but each page is 17 X 11 in.- fold that in half and you have 8.5 X 11- the size page I wanted. Make a complete quilt for the cover- fiqure about 1 inch larger than the pages- or about 9.5 X

12 for the front and back plus the spine area. The spine area needs to be the proper width for the pages- mine turned out to be about 2 inches- so my cover was 21 in. horizontally by 12 in. vertically. Fold all your finished page quilts in half- one at a time- and stack them to get an idea of how much spine width you need or count them and allow 1/4 to 1/2 inch for each page. Add the 9.5 for the front cover, 9.5 for the back cover and the 2 in. (or whatever *you* need) for the spine to get the horizontal measurement you need for the cover. Sew the pages about 1/4 to 1/2 in. apart on the spine area- this mostly depends on the type of batting you use- flannel will be thinner that W&N and will need smaller spacing.... just fold the pages in half and sew to the spine- one at a time spacing them as you have determined. (Stacking all the pages and sewing thru the middles is just too much bulk.) The book should lay fairly flat- you can add a ribbon to tie it shut or use some kind of fasterner.

Clear as mud??? LOL
