Our Krispy Kreme closed a few months ago and for months before that it was all but deserted. Of course when they opened a few years ago everyone was going there.

I totally agree about the yurky. I hate the sugar glaze waterfall that all of their donuts pass through. And I really dislike the texture it seems like really cheap fluffy white bread.

I have to agree with this but whatever happened to Winchell's? Wasn't that a national chain? There is a donut shop in South Lake Tahoe that still makes Winchell style donuts, the coconut cake ones are the best.

Lucky you! Here in Penfield we don't have too much choice. The local grocery chain that I absolutely truly dislike calls their donuts fry cakes and they also dip everything in heavy sugar glaze, yuck!

I agree whole heartedly, Sunny! I am impressed that you chose Fiber over Sugar!

Hi The one in Canada is Tim Hortons. People go there more for the coffee than the donuts. Personally DH an I love Krispy Kreme. We first had one in Seatle about 6 years ago on a road trip. I saw their sign on our way into the city and suggested we stop as I had heard lots of advertising about them and they were not available in Canada then. Well, we were hooked. Melt in your mouth sweetness! I bought several boxes of them and brought them home. They microwaved up just right, and the family at home thought they were great. I looked into what would be involved in getting a franchise in Canada and was informed that the first Canadian store would be opening in a few months (in Ontario and I'm in Alberta) and that all franchise opportunities for Canada had already been spoken for.

We now have 1 in Calgary (an hours drive from home) and will occasionally stop and get a box. I would love to stop everytime I'm in the city, but really don't need the calories.

I'm kind of glad they don't have as many stores as Tim Hortons (one on every corner in the city and every small town of about 2000 people!) I'd be getting a donut with every cup of coffee! mmmm now I want Krispy Kreme! Marilyn in Alberta, Canada

I think people went to Krispy Kreme at the beginning because "it was all the rage." Then they started thinking for themselves and realized that the donuts weren't all that good.

I don't remember Winchell's. There was a great donut chain in Canada, but I can't remember it's name. Horton's maybe? When I was a kid growing up in Cincinnati during the 50s and 60s, I don't recall any donut chains, just yummy donuts from Mom & Pop bakeries.

That's the one!! I've always been camping in Canada, so maybe I was desperate for both coffee and donuts every time I went to Tim Hortons.

Tim Horton's are all around here, usually connected to Wendy's. Gen

We have one too.

At my house we call it the Canadian Import Store. I used to visit in Guelph a fair bit, and I do believe they must have the highest number of Tim's per percentage population of anywhere! I am rather fond of their cheese biscuits, but our Tim's doesn't carry them so I have to make do with cheese croissants, which are more expensive. Thus I am tempted to indulge much less often.

That is because Wendy's bought them.

ROFL -you made the right choice IMO! And you don't have to need it for anything, so don't even think about feeling guilty. Roberta in D
