Finished project plus new (?) technique

I purchased some wooden boxes- I think of them as Treasure Boxes- at Hobby Lobby. (They run $20-30 but I've managed to catch them at half price sales in early December and stock up!) The boxes have an area with glass for a

4X6 in. photo. And, of course, a 4X6 quilted postcard fits in there! I am making one each for my son and his son and daughter for Christmas. Each is a silly quilted 'portrait' of the recipient.

I am totally annoyed with myself for not noticing that three little bumblebees on the fabric managed to place themselves right under her nose! I may have to make a new postcard- it's bothering me more every time I look at it. It reminds me how someone would tell a nosy person 'it's none of your beeswax!'.... nose... bees. I know, I'm going overboard but it still 'bugs' me! And then I put the pink streak of hair on the wrong side of her face..... sheesh!

The new technique- well, new to me!- is that I used Heat & Bond light fused to the backing fabric to run thru my computer printer. I've always used freezer paper ironed to the backing fabric for printing the message to the recipient- and then applied the fusible after it's printed. This saves a step. I like efficiency!

I really don't know if I would have noticed the bees if you hadn't pointed them out, but now that I see them, it does look kind of funny. It's a great idea, though, and I think it's amazing you're able to create a portrait that small! Will you share the others when you're finished? Please???

Could you not think of the bees as implying 'honey'? It is so gorgeous - you might never get that eyebrow right again. It's magical as it is. . In message , Leslie& The Furbabies in MO. writes

I have all three postcards done but not yet quilted or bound. Yeppers, I had to start all over with Sierra's- those bumblebees buzzing her nose just had to go! Now I need to rest- and will finish them tomorrow.

Just stunning. I'm impressed that you could have the idea, let alone carry it out so cleverly. Well done you. Have a good rest! . In message , Leslie& The Furbabies in MO. writes

My gosh, those are cute and so clever! I just love clever ideas and these are at the top of the list. Do you have old photos of each person that you could put their boxes? I made up memory boxes for my kids one year and it was a big hit. Nothing as nice as your though. Great job! Donna

Leslie, I love those postcards, and putting them into those boxes is simply inspired! :)

Oh my goodness, Leslie, what a treasure - and I'm so glad you had the tenacity to re-do and get shed of the nose bees. It would have been so nice if you'd noticed sooner but that's just how creativity goes sometimes. I know the boxes will be cherished. You've done yourself (and us) proud. Polly

When my ex referred to them as 'bee boogers' that cinched it! A re-do was mandatory! LOL Thank you to all for the lovely compliments! I had a blast doing them, but I see some things I am going to change- for better contrast. Just some little things..... ;-)

What a wonderful project Leslie. They are brilliant. I love the new technique tip you gave too!I do find it tedious to iron on the freezer paper! definitely give that a try!
