First Quilt

Jun 05, 2007 12 Replies

I finally got a picture of my first quilt posted. Also have a rag quilt that I will post when I find the picture. I want to thank you for all of the help. I had never even thought about quilting before and my daughter asked me to quilt the baby a blanket instead of crocheting one (which is what I usually do).

I think I am addicted!!!! But I am sooo slow at it.

So, I took a class in paper piecing. There is also a Quilting Convention coming to Nashville in August and I would like to take a couple classes there. One is the Mosaic quilt that Tami Bowser teaches. I would like to do a photo quilt of my new grandson.

Thanks for all of your help.

They're both beautiful, Helen. Work to be very proud of. I love the colours in the baby quilt - so unusual, but really lovely together. Don't worry too much about being slow! I have been quilting for about fourteen years (not long, of course, by many people's standards), and I'm still excruciatingly slow. . In message , hmharris writes

They are beautiful Helen. What a great start to your Quilting obsession!

Very nice! You are definitely off to a good start. Congratulations!!

Very pretty, both of them! Wish I could find a class on paper-piecing. I bought Alex Anderson's book, but it makes me feel braindead. I'm one of those people who is a "show me" learner. I have a hard time learning out of written instructions.

Carol Doak has great books on paper piecing and some of them include a CD that has video demos showing her techniques. Of course, if you ever get a chance to take a class from Carol, jump at the opportunity. She's great!

Pretty! Thanks for sharing. Speed isn't everything, learn to enjoy the process as much as the results! Piecing is peaceful, quilting is therapeutic. Roberta in D

Please send that Butterfly quilt. I have a very empty space above the Treadle that goes all the way to the 12' ceiling that it would fit perfectly in. Course you chose my colors, also. What a neat Open House gift. I can't thank you enuf. Will be nice and won't take the neat baby quilt since it's already spoken for but if any of the rest of you are so inclined I have empty space above the compie all the way to the Design Wall ..........

What surprises me is she says these are her "firsts' :)

Butterfly (addy on request)

Really pretty, Helen! Congratulations! :)
