Flummoxed

Sep 24, 2006 13 Replies

I know if I never said anything none of you would 'see' it but I *KNOW* it's there and I can't come up with a solution that I like let alone that I can live with.

Been talking about the Poiple LC that I'm making for MOI on here for awhile now...got the blocks done with a few left over....and now they are up on the design wall. Can't come up with a design I like.

What's the problem......well............somewhere between block 11 and block

12

I SWITCHED the way things were going from:

1 2 3 to 3
2 1

To go a lil further: the basic 1(butterfly on white) and 2 (white background with light purple swirlies) are the SAME on all 42 blocks........and then from 3 on they are different shades of lt/dk purple........until you get to log 11 (light purple)on ALL 42 blocks: 12 (very dark swirly purple on dark purple ): and 13 (dark purple butterfly on purple background)--they are the same on the first 11 blocks that I made....the rest are the same 2 dark purples. have tried a number of ways but I just am not 'happy with the designs I have come up with

Right now I have 6 across and 7 down and I can go to 7 by 7 if you can come up with a better solution. don't tell me to 'try' them out on EQ4 cause it no longer is on my compie (not sure where the CD went and I'm NOT unpacking any more boxes at this point in time)

Combine this with house hunting and Mr Joe not on top of the world and then yesterday learning my mom has been in hospital for a week and will be going to a convalescent home for awhile.....I haven't been on here much. I'll be returning to OT and PT now that De Boot is off and I will have another round of back shots next Tues ((thus the request for help))--gotta keep 'busy' whilst being QUIET for 4 days after.

Yes, I have considered making enuf blocks to finish all one way--and put the opposite way ones into another quilt.......would mean making another 31 blocks.........with just the center log and log 11 being the same. No I do NOT have a due date on this :)

Butterfly (read today that is it 100 days until Christmas)

Oh, Butterfly, I wish I could help with the blocks. But I have no eye for design and would come up with something that looks like caca to you.

On the other hand, I *can* help a little by sending prayers, good thoughts, and maybe some inspiration to you. My wings may not be butterflywings, but they still carry what is needed and give hugs. Hope you and Mr. Joe feel much better soon!

oh dear, {{{{{{{{Ms B}}}}}}}} those Poiple LCs are sure giving you some grief, argh. i'm hopeless without seeing them or a pix of them to suggest a good layout with what you got. i wonder is it possible to do an offset design. i've see one that was like rounds but they started slightly off centre in the upper left or right quadrant. oh goodness this is really hard to describe. i'm on my last legs re leaving this arvo and i'm not packed, not had breakfast, not showered yet. and back has been hurting for two days now...not a good sign for a good trip. oh well, no choice i am booked, i gotta just go and do it. with few plans once i get there i might end up returning to nz early too. just arrive at SFO and say put me on the next open seat, then wait, lol. i've slept in worse places thats for sure, lol. :)) i cant recall where you mom is located but i do hope shes in good hands. ya gotta have someone nearby when one goes into the convalescent homes to keep on eye on things. i do hope shes on the mend real soon and back home asap. sure would be nice to find a house and get settled in before xmas too. fingers crossed you do find one in time. cant be fun living out of boxes for much longer. big big HUGZ, jeanne

Hadn't thought about starting in one corner.I'll have a go at that:)

Mom will be by one Bro and 2 Siss and a LOT of my dad's bro/sis where she is going (around Detroit). Probably have a lot more company there that Up North.

Thanks Butterfly

always gives me ideas for setting the LC blocks.

Hugs to all of you,

Haven't heard the term caca since we left Canada a few years back with a newborn. Thank you for the wings...mine just aren't strong enuf alone right now. Butterfly

Glad your Mom is by family! As for your poiple quilt, maybe you should put it in a paper bag so it can"t peek at you, do something different, and come back to it in a few days when you brain has had a rest. Works for me. And thanks for the reminder that I have to get my butt in gear on my christmas gifts !!! Darlene in Pa

Just got to this one and as of time of writing it is now only 91 days to Xmas - and I just finished my first stitchy gift.

Time was when I would be finished them all by early September, and that was when I worked 70hours a week!! ((sigh))

Told you I was flummoxed:( Now I even lost 9 shopping days....... At least I am NOT making anything for Christmas this year. WHEW! No deadlines there to worry on.

Taking Darlene's advice and just gonna let that hang around until tomorrow.

Where near Detroit? I'm heading up that way. Gen

Gosh, Butterfly, I'm not at all sure I understand what you're explaining

-- blame it on lingering jet lag. But I hope your mom is doing well and that Joe and you are feeling better soon.

The first 11 go to the right...the rest go to the left. I have nzl*'s suggestion up right now (off center).........next I'll try Ragmop's one with the maze (thanks Ragmop, for that site--I couldn't find it the other night--thus the yell for help) I also went to Webshots and typed in Log Cabin pattern--no help there that would work for me.

Butterfly (sure got a lot of 'for sales' when I goggled Log Cabin Pattern and LC Design)

Can you lay hands on a copy of that classic by Bonnie Leman and Judy Martin, "Log Cabin Quilts"? It includes a couple pages of different sets of the same

64 LC blocks. Even if you have a different # of blocks, it's easy to expand or decrease once you have something usable. Roberta in D

Used the site that Ragmop suggested and am using the Maze Design. Doesn't show where I 'transposed' the blocks :). Have all the light lines sewn and now I'll change threads and do the dark ones. Thanks again, all of you, for the suggestions.
