frame fabric

Has anyone ever "framed" an art quilt with a fabric frame? I'm wanting to do something like that and wondering if anyone can point out to me a fabric that would imitate an old-fashioned gilt frame or even wood. Thanks. Lobo

There are a lot of fabrics out there that look like wood. I did a quick search at my fave online store Big Horn Quilts and found these: (you can also quilt wood grain type lines on any appropriate fabric and get a 'wood-ish' look)

We stitched sofa throw for a Christmas present that included a fabric frame. For an inset between the picture and the wood, we used a skinny strip of gold from Michael Miller's Fairy Frost collection. Generally, the composition was a vase of flowers on a table with a framed picture of the recipient's beloved QI beside it. The only challenge was persuading Miss QI to smile for the picture. Polly

I used five borders of batiks, each increasingly wider. I achieved an effect similar to what it sounds like you are wanting.
