Going Cross Country NOT OT

Can't make any promises cause I don't know if we'll even get as far as MI--but we're planning on it. Will keep you in mind--like I said before --Karen will know of our progress.

Butterfly (It's been years and years since we were up there--Joe's folks use to own a home in Norway Lake)

Ok, where in the state are you? If I go with the 30-day rail pass, I should be able to hop on and off at my whim. At the moment, I am thinking of taking about a week to get to NM with a stop in NV to see Las Vegas and Sandy, and maybe Kay Ahr? Then stops in AZ for you Arizonians.

I am also looking at taking a week to head north from CA to WA (Seattle).

With two weeks travelling, that leaves 2 weeks with each set of parents which hopefully will be satisfactory!

I am in the US 17 June-27 July

Shona, looking forward to a big ole US meet-up, in NZ

Plans are now made but nothing is ever in 'concrete'. We will be in Lansing on Fri, Sat and leave early Sun. No Up North trip this go round as Bro/Sis that live up there will be down .....it will be so good to see them again. Will be the first time I've seen my one sis since dad passed away.

I came home with new summer socks (anklets really) when they're "up' they have drawings of butterflies and when they are turned down like anklets usually are, they have the word butterflies' on them. And from another 'stop', I found a white sweater that had sleeves LONG enuf for me that had hand embroidered butterflies on it : ) So, thanks, Miz Pat, I did keep an eye out and did find the butterfly socks :)

Goshen, IN, AFTER the May 10th Wedding.

I'm soooooo looking forward to the places I've heard about in that area. It will all depend on scheduling and how we 'feel'

Butterfly (HOPING the laptop will have it's 'issues' fixed by then)

Butterfly: With all this gallivanting, you and Joe might want to join AAA. (American Auto Assoc.) You would be entitled to get a free 'Trip Tic for every trip. That is a detailed 'pattern' of sorts to accompany the road map, which is also free. These 'Trip Tics' are really helpful, and EASY to read! I am sure if you asked at your local AAA, an agent would be glad to show you a sample, and to explain benefits. I've had AAA come to my rescue to charge battery, and to change tire. NAYY, but I am a member. HTH.

Thanks for looking out for us : ) We have 2 diff types of assistance so I think we're safe as well as having On-Star and their little 'red' button.

Butterfly (glad to know they're there, if we ever need them)

AAA is also great if you lock your keys in the car, or lock up an engine and need a tow about 100 miles to the nearest dealership. sigh.

We have AAA just for emergencies that happen on the road. Also like the maps and the books they have for different states. the books have lots of info on hotels/motels and points of interest and all sorts of stuff. You can also get a "trip tik" on line now.

Know that On-Star can unlock your car, can pinpoint where you are at--on the road or off--and give you directions on 'how to find'. DS has used it a few times..so far they Missed one location...they said it was 5 miles--gave us directions, etc...and we looked across the intersection--down the road 2 stores and there it was. Yes, we did tell them and they made note of it on the 'computer base' (whatever that means). Think it was a new store as we saw a sign advertising it in the local area..thus our search for it.

One thing that we continue to do, is look in the lobbies of hotels, restaurants, and 'tourist traps' and find the 'local booklet of coupons' of surrounding states that have coupons for hotels. They DO have expiration dates, but one hotel did honor it as it had just expired that week and the new booklets weren't out yet.
