hello all

Today I emerged slightly from the misty morass of modern medical drugs and actually took a look around on the computer for a few minutes. Went to ER a week ago with pain and swelling completely out of control. I was writhing and weeping on the bed. That's when I soon discovered what a blessedly wonderful drug morphine can be. They gave me two shots of it while I was there, and I came home with pain pills and a prescription antihistamine type of drug, to which they added prednisone four days later. All the blood tests and other tests they did showed the same thing my doc has been saying. There is nothing going on other than a severe allergic reaction. A high norm number for that blood test would be 6. Mine was 21. DH has been setting a timer and giving me my medicine every four hours round the clock for a week, and I have just today seen some real improvement. He's also doing all the meals for us, and anything and everything else that I need. The swelling was so bad he had to cut off my wedding ring. Boo-hoo! But I'm consoling myself with thoughts of getting a new one. No sewing yet, just some reading, some movies, and some more reading. And sleeping. Oh yes, sleeeeeep. Verrrry niiiice. So I just wanted to stop in and say hi. Y'all keep up the good work around here.

Do they have any clue what you are allergic to? Yeah, that morphine is great stuff. I don't even remember my broken leg hurting all that much....they kept me pretty well drugged! I hope they can knock down your reaction and figure out a way for you to not have it again. Tender thoughts and hugs to you.

Hi Karen, so glad you are on the mend. My mother and youngest brother had a severe reaction to the Oleander bush and both swelled up so badly they needed hospitalization. Do they know what caused the allergy?

Prayers you recover fully and find out what it is.

Holding you close in thoughts and prayers, Karen. I can't begin to imagine what you're going through, but I'm glad you felt good enough to give us an update. I hope in another week, we're hearing that everything is even closer to normal.

Lots of soft hugs, Karen. Morphine is a miracle drug. So is prednisone. Relief is a blessing when pain has been so out of control. I'm really glad for you that your medical types are taking good care of you, doing what you need. Sleep and enjoy the rest.

Oh Karen, thanks for popping in. This all sounds dreadful, but I'm so glad you are getting some relief - and sleep is highly curative. Take care. . In message , "Karen, Queen of Squishies" writes

Oh Karen, I feel for you - I can only imagine what you're going through. I agree about the morphine though - me from someone who wouldn't take a tylernol - only thing that really relieved the sciatica pain. My husband must be so sick of doing dinner, making a temporary wheelchair ramp to get me to treatment, my changing rooms and bring me everything. I'm so upset about this, moreso than the the cancer. it's an awful feeling being dependent. For me it hurts more than the pain.

Oh gosh Karen. As one who suffers from allergies of the more "routine" variety and knowing how miserable they can make me, I hate to imagine what you've been going through. I'm glad the medicine is beginning to work. Good to see you pop in!

Gentle hugs, Michelle in NV
