help! forgotten name of quilt shop

Hoping some of the European posters can help me out here as I'm sure I got the recommendation here originally.

I bought twice from an American online store, definitely east coast, possibly Pennsylvania. I think the name had "fat quarter" in it, possibly not. Anyway, I used them because they were very good at marking packages as gifts to get round nasty customs duties.... Anyone know who I'm talking about? Can't for the life of me remember the name, and with the pound so strong against the dollar (1 pound is 2 dollars at the moment) I am looking for some bargains!

I have this one marked as Jessamy recommended, but I haven't tried it. Would this be the one? It is Texas though, not Pennsylvania.

Found it!! It's Quilters Quarter (knew it was quarter-something) and they are in PA. Very good service too, if anyone wants a recommendation.

Hi Morag,

I December of 2005 you wrote the following message to the list. Is this the shop you are looking for?

Rita L. P.S. L> No, that's not the one. Hmm. I think they stocked a lot of Kona Bay.

I do hope this is the shop - I have bookmarked it as 'recommended by Morag'! I always bookmark with the recommender's name as it means more than just a shop name that you can't remember why you bookmarked it! It looks interesting and for us so cheap. On Wednesday I paid £9+ (approx $18) a yard for some Moda Marbles and some Makower sea print I needed in a hurry, so next time I will think ahead!

I've ordered from them several times, so I can second the recommendation!

Not making a general offer because my time is short right now but will tell you that US quilters are often happy to remail packages to their European friends. Just contact them privately off group.

You mentioned Kona Cotton. This brand if often on sale for $2.99 or so per yard at Hobby Lobby or JoAnn's. You can order a Kona Cotton color chart from Hancock's of Paducah. Develop a special relationship with a US quilter that can send you fabric. Give your mailing friend the exact Kona Cotton color number and amount. She can mail it to you marked as "gift". The two of you can settle the payment issue privately.

When one of my European friends has family coming to visit she orders from her favorite mailorder quilt stores and has it deliever to the relative who then brings it to Europe. I once packed a bag for her nephew to take which contained many yards of fabric and 1000 jingle bells. I wanted to be a little mouse following him through the airport. I could imagine this 6'-10" basketball player sounding like Santa's sleigh as he ran out of the airport to catch a cab.

I always remember when I started cross stitching in the late 60's and even weave fabric was not yet available in the US. How I searched for any fabric with an even weave! I even used upholstery fabric once. Having visited quilt stores in several European countries I know how limited and expensive quilting fabrics can be even in the larger cities.

US quilter, I ask you to ad>Hoping some of the European posters can help me out here as I'm sure I got

Dear Out-of-Towners, Here's a map of the States (some of you U.S.ers might check this, too):

Having just come back from a longish road trip (5 states) I can assure you that your desired quilt shop is in the eastern half of the U.S.; however, there's not much coast there, aside from lakes. And for the person who suggested The Fat Quarter Shop in response to Morag's "definitely east coast"--- well, it's not even in East Texas! I've been thru' Manchaca and it's a ... nice little place, pretty country, without a coastline; The Fat Quarter Shop is a good one.

I do appreciate and depend on the kindness of quilters to suggest locales and directions, and hope you will be so kind when I get to leave town again.

Cheers! R/Sandy -- Yeah, so I have Rand McNally > Found it!! It's Quilters Quarter (knew it was quarter-something) and they

Googled Pennsylvania and no Fat Quarter shops came up. As Jessamy had recommended the Texas Fat Quarter Shop for service and postage charges, and it did have the right name I mentioned it, but did say it was Texas rather than Pennsylvania. Thought it was a logical comment as it met three of the criteria.

I do have a map!

Howdy!

No offense intended, Sally; it was the U.S.er I was pointing to, anyway.

So, did y'all order some goodies? 'Cause often when someone says "I'm gonna' order from here", we all take a look and say, "Me, too!"

Cheers! R/Sandy

None taken - don't do offense!

No I have not ordered as I had just spent more than I intended on fabric for borders/sashings on my last year's European swap which I must get round to finishing and a baby quilt which I intended to do from stash, but hadn't got anything suitable for the borders, and which I must finish before baby is born in June/July. I have 2 friends who are due to be Grannies in the summer, but I had enough pink for the borders/backing on the baby girl's quilt

I was quite pleased because I found a sea fabric which graduated from light to darker blue and it is a Noah's Ark quilt. I have a seaside quilt in mind too, and also have another Noah's Ark fabric, but that is a Christmassy one, so there will be no waste!

I also needed batting, so am doubley broke! However, I have plenty to be going on with in UFO's - the 'to quilt' pile seems to be increasing!

I have bookmarked the site though for next time.
