Asparatame hoax

In case any of you get an email from a friend saying Asparatame is unsafe, please check out

I always check with Snopes when I get emails saying not to eat, spray, buy, etc. something because there are so many hoaxers out there.

Anyway, I thought I should pass it on so no one panics.

Thanks Boca Jan!

I'd rather be safe than sorry! I can't abide aspartame (YMMV). When I ingest it, my joints get achy & very uncomfortable. Being diabetic, I have tried a lot of artificial sweeteners. But this one I have learned to leave alone.

I have SNOPES as a desktop shortcut icon. I check all those emails too, when I get them. That stuff gives me a "if you loved me you'd put a bullet between my eyes, NOW" migraines. All it takes is one sip of soda to do that......not for me anyway!

the particular email hoax may well be far too strong, but aspartame isn't exactly "safe" either, it causes side effects in a very large number of people.

I hadn't read that one, and anyway don't use artificial sweeteners in any form. Aspartame does give me headaches, but I believe that is quite common. Snopes is a good tool.

The fact that there is a load of deranged hysteria about something does *not* make it safe. (People in the Middle Ages thought the plague was caused by the Jews poisoning wells. They were deluded but the plague was still real).

Aspartame gives some people headaches.

It makes some people depressed (or much more depressed if they're depressed already).

It makes some people incontinent (particularly the old).

These are not hazards of the-sky-is-falling sort that Betty Martini is pushing, but they are real.

Martini (the source of most of the real raving bullshit) is doing the aspartame business a huge favour by getting any attempt to raise questions about the stuff stereotyped as tinfoil-hat material.

And I will *never* use Snopes again. They fund their site by pop-up ads, some of which promote profoundly evil fraudulent schemes. They are greedy opportunistic scum. Try tafkac instead.
