Gorgeous blocks!! Just beautiful colours!!!

And re two layers ironed together - I think I remember from the Piecelique book that freezer paper shrinks very slightly when ironed but only in one direction so ironing it first (and SS also sprays it) and then layering would probably eliminate that problem as well as making it stronger. SS reuses her templates many times over.

SS calls the method you are doing with the batiks now "Piecelique". She has separate DVD/patterns/etc for her applique methods. Which class will you be doing - applique or piecelique? I would love to be able to see her doing her piecelique method. Please let us know about the class in April.

hey Cher, Elmers is just PVA. i like the look of Sharons Piecelique. one of these days, lol. just got online this morning and none the wiser what the technique/design Kathyl is talking bout as i use dial up and the video is too big for me to download in this lifetime, lol. can anyone tell me who the designer was and i'll check the Simply Quilts pages still up, might show a pix and then i'll know what we're discussing, lol. ok, ok, found it. at first glance, looks to be much like the piecelique method. ta for the heads up on that, kathyl. always on the lookout for patterns that have curves for more ideas. cheers, jeanne

The book is by Dale Fleming. I believe she came "out" with this before Sharon Schamber's book did. (Sharon was probably too busy making prize winning quilts to write a book! I guess I could check....I DO have both books! Have I ever admitted to being a book junkie?? Well, I guess I have now!) Jeanne, did you find my link to the SQ episode with the pictures? Not just the video? It goes to show there really isn't all that much new in the world. Many people come to the same ideas independantly.

Cheryl, I took a pieceliqué class from Sharon Schamber last summer, as well as an appliqué class -- though she teaches more than one type of appliqué. The classes were really interesting, and she has *very* definite ideas about how ironing surfaces should be set up. I have to admit that I use the one I got for the class more often than I use my ironing board; it really does do a better job for quilting.

yup, i did find it (didnt you read my previous msg, lol). seems much like Sharon S's method, you can get the whole thing pix by pix online at Sharons website, well used to be able to anyhow. dont know if shes still got it all there. a long long pdf file iirc. must go check i guess, eh. else i'm talking thru my hat again. oh oh, and saw all your oval blocks, gorgeous with all the batiks. best hide those or you know who's gonna be round there snif'n them out, lol. so how long does it take you to do one block now? envious minds wanna know. :)) cheers, jeanne

I haven't timed it. I'm not sure if I'm down to the six minute level or not. I think that's what the author says it takes to make the inserted circle block. I'm probably pretty close. But now I've got an assembly line going. I'm preparing a bunch of blocks before sewing them. I think I've got about 15 more ready to sew. The little piece I was machine quilting is sitting all alone by the machine now. Poor thing!

Hey, have you tried the new Elmer's Glue Sticks? I got them at Office Depot, haven't seen them other places yet. They are as thin as a pencil. I really likey.

Yikes! I tried to go back to the video this morning and the menu has changed to new shows. How do I find the one from yesterday about circles?

And of course you all remember that if you wanted Drunkard's Path squares, you could simply cut those pieced circles in quarters... Just trying to be helpful. Roberta in D

It's a strange set up! If you go to HGTV and look at the top where it says "Videos", you can do a search for Simply Quilts videos

Now comes the strange part. The shows are broken up by segments and the segments aren't listed together!! Odd!! The curves show starts with #88, then it runs into the next, unrelated video! I found #54 as the next segment of the circles....it has the instructions. (My paper doesn't pop off as easily as hers does!) # 68 is the last segment. I, also, can't figure out how to load the whole show at once. It appears that full show segments are in a rotation from which you can only choose from 4 different shows at one time. At least those shows are shown in their entirety!Good luck!

Jeanne, I've got an Australian magazine with a similar block pictured in it. The big difference is that the circles were cut from a chunk of string pieced fabric. The string pieced fabric was made from various tiny prints with the same main color, in this case royal blue with silver and/or gold metallic in them. IIRC the backgrounds were purples, blues, and greens. It is a stunning quilt. Debra in VA See my quilts at

hey Deb, didnt i just see that or similar online yesterday with the striped fabric used sometimes in the circle, sometimes in the outside bit. greens, blues, purples, oh it were luverly, yup, surely were. i reckon those ovals might work well for surrounding portraits of folks too. how bout sienna ones, ok, maybe not the best colour in a quilt but then again..... tea dyed perhaps for that antique look with some of the rellies pix from long ago if ya had them. could be interesting. add a bit of lace too perhaps. oops, sorry, me rambling again. cheers, jeanne

I thought the same thing Jeanne...the ovals would be cool as picture frames for printed fabric photographs. This particular oval isn't quite the right shape, but that could easily be fixed. GMTA!

So you can do 2 blocks. She only cuts 2 at a time cause she can't cut 3 accurately.

ohhhhhh, i cant get the video, dont recall if that was said on the text page or not. just from reading what has been posted so far, i thot... she'd press two pieces of freezer paper together for strength. i'll have to go back and read that again i think, lol. silly me. doh. cheers, jeanne

Nope! My Bad! It is doubled for strength. I read better than I "see".

Sorry for the confusion. Go back to your regularly scheduled chaos.
