Help with proportions

Hi, I'm ok at basic math and this question seems to only need that, but I can't make the numbers work.

I want to shrink Warm Wishes down to a mini quilt. The basic blocks for the "original size" are:

6X6 for the square and 2X6 + 2X6 + 3X6 So when you take away the quarter inch seam allowance the second block is a 6X6 block of stacked strips.

But when I cut that in half or even farther, I can't find the right sizes for the three strips to end up being the same size as the little solid square. What I really want to do is a 2X2 square. I have experimented with going to an 1/8 seam. I still can't make the numbers work.

Is there a way to do this? I just can't work with a measure like .66666666667 for cutting strips.

I know some of you are really great with manipulating patterns. If anybody can help I'd appreciate it.

Thanks, Sunny

Have you tried drawing it on paper and paper piecing strip blocks?

Don't think I know the pattern. Do you have the link?

Maybe the answer is to change the block slightly to make cutting easier.

Sunny: To make your life easier, and this project more fun, consider changing that basic square to 2.25" FINISHED size. Then you will need three .75 x

You guys are so fast, and wonderful. I am going to give a try at each method, paper piecing and changing the square finished size to 2.25.

I love this group. Everybody is so smart. Not to mention generous with your wealth of knowledge.

I'm with you, Sunny. Measuring .66666666667 does seem to be just a little more than my brain could contemplate. I've enjoying making Warm Wishes many times - but I only made the sum of the three stripes equal to whatever size fussy block the special print allowed. Polly
