Hi! 1st quilt

Hi, everybody! I've been lurking for a little while (about 2000 msgs worth, which does not take long for this group!). I've finished my very first quilt, even though I had very little idea of what I was doing. It was lots of fun and I want to do *more*. A picture of it is here (the 'with toes' refers to my toes and the dog's toes that are also in the picture).

I made it out of cotton flannel top and back, the nice heavy stuff, with a single layer of cotton batting. I used the machine for everything. I will give it to a friend of mine, due in October, for a lap quilt. I just turned the backing over the edges and topstitched to finish the edges. I think, on reflection, that the edge is too wide, but I'll just pretend I intended that all along :) There are a lot of things I'll do differently for the next quilt, but I'm pretty pleased with this one. I'll be sorry to see it go.

Welcome to the group. Beautiful quilt for your very first one! Very colorful. I am sure your friend will love it. I am also new to quilting--just this year. I am making my 1st batch of quilts for me 'cause I want the practise. When I get better at the quilting part I will make some for my family.

Dog's name is Bonnie/Bonny (never could decide). A rescue, probably a Border Collie or BC mix, has learned not to try to crawl into my lap when I have sharp pointy things in my hands. A 44lb dog that just

*knows* she's a 40lb lap dog. The extra 4 pounds hangs off one side or the other of the lap. She did eye the quilt, but decided that stepping on it was probably a Bad Thing. The toes are from me and a digital camera (1st time using a digital, old hand at 35mm). I knew the dog paw would be in there, but didn't see my toes in the view. Oh well. Will polish my nails next time, just in case.

Wow! Pretty impressive for a first quilt. It looks nice and snuggly, which is just what I like. Your friend will love it (and I think the border looks just like you intended it to!).

Welcome, Liz, from another "Young" (by marriage, though). Wonder if you're related to my DH! What a wonderful job for your first quilt! Looks very cozy, and I'm sure your friend will love it. I think your edge looks just fine. Remember, TANQP*!

Yes, 'Dance' - that's the word I was looking for. The stars and the pinwheels, everything seemed to be jigging about. What fun. Well done, Liz; and welcome - good to see you here. Glad you've found a chair. I'm just along a bit on the right (or left if you're going across the Pacific way)!! (I *like* plain toes) >g< . In article , Elena writes
