I am excited - this is on topic

My ten year old granddaughter asked me if I would teach her how to sew! She and her brother have been recipients of a few quilts. I have almost reached the point where I can see something purple and not want to run screaming out of the house or fabric shop. Last year I made her a Hannah Montana quilt which of course involves lots of purple and pink. I swore I never wanted to see anything purple again. Of course, that is her favorite color so it was good that all the fabric for Hannah Montana has purple in it. She is very artsy/ craftsy and loves creating anything. I'm going to try to get her during her spring break so she can spend a few days with us, and we can make something simple. They live a hour away so it's not like we have to travel 2 days to get her. I may try to get her to come over one weekend before that, but she is very involved in school and is on a swim team so she stays very busy.

Woo-hoo Sherry! What fun!

While the lovely quilts my great grandmother made were my inspiration for taking up sewing/quilting, it was my grandmother who gave me my first lessons when I was about 14. I didn't do much with it right after those first lessons, but started in again as 20-something with a good foundation of understanding due to my grandma. :-)

Thanks for re-igniting a good memory for me. I'm looking forward to hearing the good memories you and your grand-daughter make.

Those teaching times are special moments for girls and their grandmothers (and boys, too -- but I speak as a former girl). I will never forget the time I spent with both my grandmothers when they were teaching me to fall in love with fabric. I didn't take up sewing. I don't make my own clothes and never sewed a Barbie dress. But when I needed it, that love was there and in some small fashion it was my grandmothers -- both long gone from this world -- who saved my sanity and set my heart on its new course. Maybe the girl would like a color wheel and learn about some colors that compliment purple and pink but contain neither? LOL -- I envy you, and her.
