Ideas needed......

Pati: There have been some very clever suggestions here. I would like to point out that some people are not conversant with musical terms. So, if you go for subtle suggestions of certain symphony elements, lots of people won't even recognize the musical connection. IOW, I suggest you go for an obvious theme. How about little quilts flitting across a background of a music score?

How about looking for symphonies that have names?

I find googling sometimes helps jog my brain to come up with a new idea

- try using key words - "symphony", "quilt", "fabric" - use alone or together - try an image search with these keywords......add in other keywords as you come up with them. WRITE DOWN anything that grabs your attention as you go by and then look at your notes later to see if new combinations come to mind. Don't try to narrow things down too quickly.

Designing a quilt from scratch is the slowest part but sure is fun!

Ohhhhhh! To follow up on Jane's excellent suggestion how about a conductor directing a bunch of pieces of fabric or a bunch of small blocks floating around in front of him? Or have him 'directing' bits of fabric into their proper places in a complex block in the background?

Maybe it is the way my monitor is rendering the colors, but when I first looked at this picture, I saw a very athletic conductor sans clothing (but with oddly shaped red boots) leaping in the air. I had to look very carefully again to see what was really there.

I think it is a very fun design, Kathyl. Since I read Rita's note and your reply, before I checked it out, I could very easily see that the subject is indeed a conductor in a beige coat. If I had not read those messages, I might have jumped to a surprising conclusion too! I think it is because we do not expect a beige tails coat. Mostly those are black, with the occasional white one. Anyhow, I like your work.

If I ever make it again, I'll have to make sure I don't use that color for the coat. I liked the contrast with the pants and the very light background of the stage. But it certainly has conjured up some wild images for people!!! Really raised some eyebrows!
