And it occurs to me that there is a whole school of contemporary music which works by turning images or geometric forms into sound. Xenakis went the whole hog, constructing one diagrammish thing (Metastaseis) which could be read as a musical score for a symphony-sized orchestral piece and also used as the architectural plan for a building. Or you could try using the score for the string music in his "Pithoprakta" (another symphony-like piece) as a quilting pattern. Both are described here:
