My Mother has tried to describe a "circle" quilt that may be this(She hasn't shared pictures) but it sounds like mom is doing the curved seam clipping and turning. so the raw edges are INSIDE the quilt..

That technique has been around for at least 10 years.
I've never really loved the way hexag> I might just have to try this one!
It can be interesting, though, if the half hexagons are different fabrics, like this pattern: . I did one in black and white prints.
