Miniature Quilts

I went to a small local quilt show today - Some lovely quilts, but they mainly seemed to be of the 'Art' variety. I hadn't taken a camera and as they charged £2 a photo I felt that a camera wouldn't have been welcome anyway.

One quilt really stole my heart as I came round a corner. 10 blocks like a sampler quilt (2 blocks x 10 blocks). Each block had a little appliqued bed with a sleeping doll in a nightie and nightcap (about

6")popped into it. Each doll could be taken out of bed. Each bed had its own detachable miniature bed quilt about 10" square, which had poppers to hold it in place. Each little quilt was different. There was something quilted on the 'bottom sheet' but I couldn't see what.

At the side of each bed was an appliquéd cat asleep on a mat, except for number 10 which had the cat on the pillow and the doll on the mat! Each bed had a motif of a little teddy as a bedside table, and at the foot of the bed a number.

The sashings were in two colours - the horizontal colour had quilted clouds and the other had Z Z Z Z Z Z Z Z Zs. The wide inner border was pieced candles, and the outside border a teddy fabric.

Now I have to draw it out before I forget it. It really was unique - I wonder if it was a pattern or original. It seemed a brilliant solution for what to do with miniature bed quilts if you aren't into miniature brass bedsteads.

It was in pastel pinks/white/green and greeny blue, and I want it!!

This sounds completely adorable. I think I will have to try to draw it from this description, also. Then, when I feel like doing another few miniatures, I could have a go - might try to devise a slight variation, though, so that it is still unique! . In message , Sally Swindells writes
