need a word

this is needed for a quilty idea so it is on topic. what is the word to describe art that is say 3 separate panels placed side by side on a wall. the painting is all related, might be an entire pix that is shown in 3 panels, might be one pix in three seasons, something like that. i know there is a word but darned if i can think what it is. tia, j.


Seems not, looking at the OED. And a triptych is supposed to fold, like a mediaeval altarpiece - the "-ptych" bit is to do with folding rather than just being a panel.

You can have a pentaptych, though. (Sounds like it ought to be something small and spiny that lives in leaf litter).
