On-Topic News catchup - and a great new-to-me tool!

Just lately I have only been seeing about a dozen posts per day on the ng. So as well as having trouble seeing the posts (eye problems) I am also not getting many.

So in the hope that this gets through - I have some happy news to share.

I just picked up my "new" sewing/embroidery machine - a Janome 10001. Haven't had time to play much so far, and I haven't invested in any of the digitising stuff YET, but it is NICE!

The woman who sold it only used it for few months and she decided to upgrade to the 11000. As she teaches in a sewing centre the machine has been well treated, and she is happy to teach me how to use it in exchange for me teaching her about EQ and some of my quilting tools. Small problem - she lives about 130km away lol. But we have decided that a weekend-long visit would suit us both.

I have got her all enthusiastic about the Renae's Rays tools used for marking quilting patterns - the new-to-me part of the post featured in Bonnie McCaffrey's latest vidcast.

(NAYY)They would be perfect for marking placements for large embroidered designs (quilts and tablecloths). Has anyone else tried these tools? I want a mini version now - for planning patterns. If anyone has seen a mini one please point me in the right direction, as using a standard protractor is a PITA, and my old drafting tools are not quite what I want.

As I am not a long arm quilter I will probably use it for creating really BIG foundation patterns I think.

Aahhhhh!! One of the lovely things about buying for a group to use is that I can justify getting all sorts of lovely "gadgets" that I could not possibly justify for myself alone lol

So happy for you, Cheryl. I don't know anything at all about your new treasure but can see that you're going to have a just wonderful time with it. The gators are all busy with new babies so I will just tippy-toe a soft shoe happy dance. We will want a play-by-play report on your discoveries. Polly

Hi Cheryl,

I'm green with envy - I would dearly love a new sewing machine - and as Polly said, reports reports reports please.

Enjoy.
