One of THOSE days.....

....where my brain must have taken a vacation. I've been working on a simple rail fence quilt in autumn colors and have the main body of the quilt top finished. So far, so good. Today was my day to add the borders and start on sandwiching it together. Borders, should be so simple, right? Sewed one on backwards (what was I thinking), had to piece another one, and what should have been a simple task, turned into a workout with my seam ripper. Finally, I just walked away and called it day. The dots are not connecting in my brain today...: ( Donna

Smart move to walk away. I find that when I have one of those days, if I try to keep at it, it just gets worse. Tomorrow will be better!

Our children have such keen wit - it's fun (and exhausting) just to sit back and listen. Yesterday, one of them remarked, "Yep. The cheese just slid off his cracker." The other replied, "His blinker's been on a long time and he Finally turned the corner." Maybe one of those is what happened to you. LOL BTDT Polly

You don't suppose they inherited that wit from their mother do you?

My sympathies Donna. I've had THOSE days too. Very frustrating. Nothing to do but walk away though. Tomorrow will be better. :-)

hey that line about 'cheese sliding off the cracker' might be useful for Sunny with that rude woman in her class that works at her LQS. i just read it to dd, she and i both like that one in particular. blinker is good too but not as good as the sliding cheese. other favs of that nature... a can short of a six pack a sandwich short of a picnic and others that elude my brain just now. j.

Donna, that's a darned pretty quilt. With all our talk about green lately, this one is pretty appropriate! Love those greens and beige/creams together - very calming combination. Good job!

Thanks friends for the commiseration....and thank you Louise for the compliment. I'll be back at it tomorrow and I hope to get some real progress done with none of todays fumble fingers and cheeseless cracker syndrome. Donna

Awww, Dee. That's my favorite. My beloved DH never knows when I mention there's a 'screw loose at the controls' just exactly What I might have gotten into. When I was threading the serger tonight it could have been: I cut off 2 fingers and the tip of my nose, put out one eye and shut down the electrical power for the entire Swamp. Yes. Screws loose can be a problem. Definitely a screw loose here. Polly

The lights are on but nobody's home One taco short of a combination platter Elevator don't go to the top floor

Believe it or don't, DW started collecting these last week. I told her somebody's probably already compiled a list on the web someplace (but I'm too tired to google right now...) I'm not sure if she just thinks they're funny or if she's looking for the right words to describe me... ((((Donna,))))) "stuff" happens. BTDT You did the right thing.

What I like about the "cheese sliding off the cracker" line is that it seems to me to be a bit more temporary than some of the other lines. I think it implies that the person is usually more "with it" but has temporarily lost it.

Louise is right--that is one pretty quilt. (I missed the link to the picture before.) I love the sunflowers peeking out between the rails. :-)

Thank you Michelle. I'm thinking I might try a scalloped edge on this one with maybe a few applique sunflowers scattered around it. Easier typing it than I know it will be doing it! I might just quit with the scalloped edge if I start getting fuzzy brained again....Donna

The scalloped border with the appliqued sunflowers sounds lovely Donna. :-) Easy for me to say though since I've never done a scalloped border.

I hope you don't mind if I may make a suggestion Donna. I mean, I'll make it anyway and you can just ignore it!! but don't be offended. OK?

Scalloped edges can be really tricky, because of the inside pointed bit. That is such a pretty quilt. How about doing a more gently curved border, that doesn't actually come to points? It will still look pretty, you can still use your appliquéd sunflowers, and you can use

*bias binding, but you won't have any tricky bits at all. You can also get round the corners with a gentle curve, and just carry on. . In message , dealer83 writes
