VBS - One of *THOSE* days

OY, The Pain!!!! I am having one ot *those* quilting days. Not once have my seams matched -- had to frog each and every one of them to make them look relatively decent! It's been a looooong time since I had a day like this -- LOLOL! I'm just thankful that there aren't really very many seams to match up. I went fabric shopping last week with the friend who asked me to make a lap quilt for the American Heart Association. We settled on six different florals, all having purple in them -- lilacs, hydrangea, etc. She couldn't put *any* of them back on the shelf so, with that many "must have" fabrics, I decided I would make a Bull's Eye Quilt. It's relative quick and easy and uses a lot of different fabrics. It has a whole cloth center that is 8" x 20" and then the surrounding bands and corner blocks are 4". The finished size will be roughly 48" x 60". I have been sewing the long side bands to the center. The corner blocks are sewn onto the short top and bottom bands and then they are sewn to the center. This is where the problem is. There are only 4 seams (2 top & 2 bottom) to be matched with each "go round" and I can't get ANY of them to match up! VBS, I have finally decided to pin the

*%&%*^ seams from the top down about 2" -- LOL! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Mary,

This is a trick I learned from someone here on rctq, for when you have something to match up.

Pin from about an inch or inch-and-a-half before until the same amount after the spots to be matched up. Then baste, just inside the 1/4 inch seam line, with a really long stitch. Check to be sure everything matches -- if not, you only frog a couple of inches and they are easy-peasy basting stitches besides. If it *does* match up, just go back to the beginning of the seam and stitch as usual with regular stitch length.

It takes longer to write this than it does to do it and makes matching ever so much easier.

Just soon's I get 'er finished, I will post pics. The colors start out light in the center and then get darker and then lighten up a bit. I am thinking of naming her "A Day in the Life of a Garden". The fabrics just sort of remind me of the light from sunrise through the afternoon with maybe a bit of a storm and then evening and the beginnings of sunrise again. I don't usually "name" my quilts but this one is sort of speaking to me :-). ciaoMeow >^;;^<
