color sashing do you think would be best? (Given, of course,that I can find the 'right' fabric in that color/colors.)These blocks were an experiment. We've got a book in the store(forgive me, I've forgotten its name) that uses a 'stack and whack'ishtechnic with striped fabric.I thought I'd give it a try. Love stripes and what they can do to aquilt. Anyway, at first glance I was not impressed with my blocks.For one reason, I wasn't as careful as I should have been in matchingthe repeats on the fabric prior to cutting. Another reason, and Ihaven't been able to think this one thru, the patterns are notsymmetrical as they are in other similar technics.In this book, you stack the fabric four deep. Cut blocks going acrossthe strips. I used a 12.5" square ruler. They you re-cut the squarestwice on the diagonal. Finally, you sew those four 'identical'resulting triangles together into a square.And some turn out slightly wonky. Drove two other employees of thestore crazy. Said they couldn't stand the 'off'ness.But when I squared up the blocks and laid them out on the floor, I'mmuch more pleased than I thought I would be. They remind me of thelarge, gilded letters in old manuscripts.But, I digress. What color would you think best for the sashing andhas anyone else tried this technic with stripes? Is it just me?joan

That is so downright gorgeous - if it was mine, I think I'd go with a medium light sashing like gold or tan - you certainly don't want anything to take away from those beautiful blocks. Wow My opinion only, but if you went too light with the sashing, I think a person's eye would just see that ... if you went with too dark a sashing, the same thing. Please let us know what you decide. What a great job.

Yes, give it that whole illuminated manuscript feel!

I think a small border of a fabric that reads mostly metallic gold or bronze (not as shiny as a lame, but would definately pick up the metallic in your fabric) w/ a dark brown looks-like-wood would be really neat. Then your blocks would be like "jewels" set in the old wood cover.... grin
