OT - Baby News!

The baby is here - finally! She ended up being a week late and was born a day before mom was supposed to be induced. After an extremely short labor and two pushes, Willow was born at 12:23 am on August 12. Meconium from baby and heavy maternal bleeding issues added a bit of anxiety to the event. She weighed 6 pounds 8 ounces and was 19 inches long. Mom and baby are both fit as a fiddle at this point. Dad and big brother are just smitten with her. So far, she is a very mellow baby. Today I had to go shopping for newborn clothes since everything we bought before hand was 0 to 3 months and was far too big. She really needs newborn sizes for a while.

It has sure been a fast and furious couple of weeks. We now have one more August birthday to celebrate. My son and his family from Florida (my first grand daughter included) are visiting both families this week which will encompass both weekends. If the planets align appropriately, I may get a few pictures of all three of my grandchildren at once! My son moved to Florida 13 years ago and hasn't been back since. We generally go there since we have more family there. He is spending the weekend with us while his wife and daughter are in the Poconos with her family. He will join them there on Monday. It is so nice to have him here. It sure has been busy with the baby only being a few days old and trying to help my daughter while trying to spend as much time with my son as I can. I guess it keeps you young!

I have quilts all planned for the new baby and hope to start on them right after Labor day since I am committed every day until then. I have all the fabrics which are already washed so I am ready to go. I have a web page almost done for the new baby and will make sure to post pictures of her quilts and crocheted blankies.

I hope everyone has been well - you are always in my prayers and good thoughts. I hope to get caught up on the postings in the next few days.

Congratulations, Alice! :D That's a very healthy size -- only half a pound less than each of my girls 30+ years ago. Can't wait to see photos!

ooh, congratulations, glad she avoided a c-section (am I right in thinking you said a while back it was 50/50), my little one is almost 3 months old and still wearing newborn stuff and not looking like she's about to grow out of them.

cheers Anne

Welcome to the World, Willow. Welcome around the RCTQ cyberquilting frame too. we all been a'wait'n and a'wait'n some more for that wee lass to show up. she is tiny but still a healthy weight. they do grow fast thats for sure. all mine were 8 to 9 lbs so her weight sounds tiny to me. we'll reserve a spot for you with the rest of the anklebiters under the quilt...thats where the M'n'M's usually can be found so you'll probly like it by the time you get old enough to hang out there. congrats to mama, papa, big brother, gran and grandad, aunts, uncles, cousins, well just everybody, on a very busy august for all of you. Well done all of you!!! Happy Birthday to all the birthday boys and girls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! j.

Thanks to all for the kind words and good wishes. My DD called this morning saying that Willow is so much more comfortable in the newborn clothes. I got her some onsies with long sleeves that have mittens since she has been scratching her face. She likes to sleep with her hands near her face for some reason. She may be trying to find her thumb. But the new duds did the trick. She's not fighting with sleeves that came down to her knees. Now she needs to find a bottle nipple that gives her the proper flow of milk. DD wants to try the Playtex nurser system which worked very well for my grandson. May help with her hiccups too which she has had since before she was born. Seems like DD is much more comfortable and confident with the second one which is nice to see. She's not freaking out at every little sound or issue.

a drop or two of mint essence(check baking aisle in supermarket) in a cup of plain water helps with digestion.. cooled boiled water in the heat of summer is good hydration. a wee drop of mint essence in the water is easy to add. they dont need much being so little. those chocolate mints on your pillow in hotels have their purpose. eh. j.

Welcome to Willow. My great niece is also named Willow and DS was also 6 pound 8 ounces, but 17 inches long ( I was glad that I wasn't like my grandma and had 12 pounders after that).

No c-section, no epidural. She was admitted to labor and delivery at 11:45 pm and she was born at 12:23 am! First baby=20 hours; Second baby=30 minutes!

Lost a lot of blood though - touch and go for a transfusion but they got the bleeding under control.

I gave my son fennel tea when he was born almost 40 years ago! Bought the seeds from the pharmacy and steeped them in hot water. He had a really bad case of colic but the tea really helped!
