OT TROPICAL STORM WARNING

I just checked NOAA and a storm has formed off the western coast of Florida and heading NNW. They say it should strengthen into a CAT 1 by this afternoon. Right now its called TD 4. Warning area from Swanee River west to Alabama state line.

Then there is Ana and predicted to be in the Gulf by Thursday with Bill not far behind. Bill is predicted to be a CAT 3 by the middle of the week, but still out in the Atlantic.

Don't know my geography (comes from being educated in one of the worst school districts in the country back in the olden days when bad schools were nowhere near as bad as now). Is Orlando affected by these? This is daughter's first summer in Florida!

Thanks

Be safe Rita and all of you. Rita, I picked up an older magazine off the guild give-away table last week. I opened it up and there was a beautiful quilt and the article was My love to Martin. (I might not have the name perfect it isn't in front of me now) Gosh it was a nice surprise! Taria

LOL, Debbi. I understand. Just generally - Orlando is in the southern half of FL and about in the middle. Translation - they're most unlikely to get a direct hit from a hurricane. On the other hand - they can get one from 'either side' that has already hit land and weakened. We hope. Although - there have been many times when a hurricane has come ashore and gone all the way to New York, maybe even Canada? Polly

It seems that in the last couple of years - more hurricanes have made it up to Canada to die out!

thisis one photo that I took on Sept16th, 2008 from my side window of thelast Gulf Coast hurricane storm cloud cover which was passing overOttawa. The Florida hurricanes which live long enough to reach NYCand then the East Coast of Canada have caused lots of damage there andsome have picked up strength again over the ocean before reaching PEIand Newfoundland (Canadian provinces which are Islands off the EastCoast). jennellh

Here we go again . . . . As you know, Kate, I'm right on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay, and we have to drag in the lawn furniture every time a storm aims anywhere from the Florida panhandle to Mississippi.

And I just had a conversation with my home insurer Friday, which was the date my homeowner's insurance renewed -- withOUT coverage for wind and rain, i.e., hurricane damage. Last year, coverage including hurricane damage was about $2500. This year, coverage without hurricane coverage is about $650. And to buy coverage for wind and rain is over $3500, minimum. Since I don't have a mortgage, I am not required to buy wind and rain coverage, so I am self-insured as of Friday. And here comes a TS. Whee.

The roof needs replacing anyway. I just hope it stays on. Mostly. Keep your fingers crossed.

Okay, all of you who live on the Gulf. Keep your heads down, and if they tell you to evacuate, pack up your family members, pets and quilts, and run!

Big hugs, Michelle in very dry Nevada

I second that! We lived (courtesy of the U.S. Navy) in Okinawa, Japan and Puerto Rico for about 8 yrs. We learned where to head for cover as well as to stock up on supplies waaaay ahead of time. Prayers be with all of you on the SE coast this year. ME-Judy

Wow!!! That's a while back! Might have been To Martin With Love.. We're supposed to get a direct hit especially from "Bill". We sustained lot of damage from the last cane when it took the corner of my roof off and ruined an orange tree when a neighbor's tree fell on both.
